LEWISBURG - The PIAA Class AA swimming and diving competition began on Friday at Bucknell University’s Kinney Natatorium.
Upper Moreland picked up the only boys medal of the night for the Suburban One League. The 200 freestyle relay of Jake Winter, Jake Matthews, Devon Pickard and Zach Litvin finished eighth (1:30.26).
“This was my first state meet but I didn’t really feel any pressure,” said Litvin, a sophomore. “Having a medal feels really good. I think our time could have been a little bit better but we still got the medal.
“I’m looking forward to the rest of the meet.”
Matthews was also 23rd in the 100 butterfly (54.92) and George Balot was 15th in diving (319.70 points).
Springfield’s boys 200 freestyle relay of Jake Corcoran, Sam Del Rio, Ben Van Meter and Ethan Ford finished 10th (1:30.46).
Van Meter was 12th in the 200 freestyle (1:46.43) and Corcoran was 27th in the 50 freestyle (22.75).
For Springfield’s girls, the 200 medley relay of Megan Leibfried, Alison Currie, Emily Cooney, Lizzie Nadolski won the consolation heat to finish ninth (1:51.51).
Leibfreid, Carly Munger, Emily Cooney and Nadolski finished12th in the 200 freestyle relay (1:41.41).
Nadolski was 16th in the 50 freestyle (24.79) and Margrethe Leis finished 26th in the 200 freestyle (2:00.22).
