Norristown Advances Two To State Finals
By Glenn Kaiser
Coach Mark Harner will coach two of his wrestlers in this evening’s PIAA AAA State Championship finals. Both, Zach Fuentes (113) & Brett Harner (182), Mark’s son earned spots as 2013 finalist tonight starting at 7 pm. Four mats will be used to conduct the finals, third, fifth, and seventh place matches in the Giant Center in Hershey, PA.
Fuentes needed to rebound after being nearly pinned in a cradle secured by Waynesburg’s AC Headlee, which he did with a big move of his own tossing Headlee to his back late in overtime to secure a 12-7 sudden victory. Harner made things a little easier in his 182 pound semifinal against senior Marcus Johnson from Governor Mifflin, pinning Johnson with his patent leg half/cradle in just :50 seconds.
Norristown moved up in the team standings to 6th place heading into the final rounds tonight.

Pennridge’s Scott Parker did not fare as well in his semifinal match against Ethan Lizak of Parkland at 113 pounds. Hoping to meet Fuentes one more time in Fuentes’ senior year, Parker could not get anything going as he dropped a 4-2 decision. Parker will wrestle for the bronze against his quarterfinal opponent, Jake Gromacki (Cathedral Prep), who he defeated 3-2. Oddly enough, Parker will have wrestled both of his early round foes in the consolation bracket, so far so good as he defeated Dom Forys (North Allegheny) again 5-4 ins the consi-semis.
CB East’s Fransesco Fabozzi lost his bid to be a state finalist getting majored by Tyler Smith from Franklin Regional. Fabozzi will wrestle for 5th tonight after losing in the consolation semis to Bryce Killian (Middletown).
CR North’s state duo of John Dutrow (138) and Tyler Callendar (220) will both wrestle for bronze as they battled back through the consolation brackets in their respective weight classes. Callendar will wrestle D1 nemesis Michael Boykins from Coatesville. Dutrow will wrestle North Allegheny’s Jesse Rodgers. Ben Ross (120-Pennridge) will go for 5th with another fall in a third round consi win and a 6-1 loss to Vince Joseph (Central Catholic). CB South’s Dom Rigous (170) and P-W’s Justin Staudenmayer (160) will wrestle in the 7th place bout tonight.
