Pennsbury and Truman will play in the first annual Lois K Daley Memorial Cup game this Friday night at Grundy to honor the passing of Daley who lost a courageous battle with cancer at age 54 on July 11, 2015.
“We have had a game designated for the fight against cancer for the last six years,” said Pennsbury head coach Joe Deery – brother-in-law of Daley. “The last three years we have played Truman, and we fill the rink with anywhere from 500 to 700 people.
“The last year we collected $8500 for the fight against cancer,” added Deery. “And over the six years the total is close to $35,000.
“The students get involved in the schools and it is a great event,” continued Deery. “The middle school kids get to play before the varsity – and it is a great night for everybody.”
And the beat goes on…

Central Bucks West Bucks
Central Bucks West head coach Dave Baunand his young Bucks have a difficult journey to close out the SHSHL Continental Conference regular season.
“I have to run that gauntlet,” said Baun as CBW (10-1-1, 21) closes with North Penn (6-6-0, 12), Pennridge (7-5-1, 15), CB East (2-10-0, 4) and CB South (11-0-0, 22). “North Penn is much better than its record with the four forfeited games – Pennridge is much improved – CB East is a rivalry game – and CB South is another rivalry game and is undefeated in the league.
“We played William Tennent last week and were fortunate to come away with a 3-3 tie,” added Baun of the SOL National Conference leader. “They are very aggressive and dominated the game early and we made some adjustments. If we didn’t have Jonah (Brous) in goal, we would have been in a lot of trouble.
“This team is a team with very balanced scoring,” continued Baun. “That is really what we have been looking for this year.”
The balance sheet for the Bucks illustrates that point.
CB West is led in points by Shawn Phillips (8 goals, 11 assists, 19 points) followed by Dalton Karl (10-8-18), Joe Anton (7-9-16), John McCreadie (9-6-15), Ryan Trefz (5-10-15), and Eric Schwass (8-6-14).
“Unlike a lot of teams – we get scoring from every one of our four lines,” said Baun. “We have stressed a team concept where everyone can – and does – score.
“We have a tough schedule to close out the season – but that is a good thing,” added Baun. “It helps us get ready for the Flyers Cup – the schedule is a good one.”

Pennsbury Falcons
Pennsbury head coach Joe Deeryand his Falcons (6-7-0, 12) have a seemingly safe lead for the third and final SHSHL ‘AA’ playoff position – but the Black & Orange have some work to do if they want to remain ahead of fourth place Neshaminy (3-8-1, 7) as the season rushes to a close.
“We have a very difficult schedule to end the season,” said Deery in reference to the Falcons closing games against William Tennent (10-1-1, 21), Council Rock South (8-3-1, 17), and the season ending game with Neshaminy. “Neshaminy has the game in hand and plays Abington (0-11-2, 2) and Archbishop Wood (2-9-1, 5) – plus games with us and Council Rock South.
“It might come down to that last game of the season,” added Deery. “William Tennent and Council Rock South are the two best teams in our league – and we are going to have to play well to beat either of them. We seem to play well against the good teams for a period or two – but we need to finish games.”
Pennsbury is an extremely young team overall – but the Falcons showcase one of the elite players in the league in senior Jack Kelly.
“Jack is without doubt the most unselfish player that I have ever coached,” said Deery of his high scoring upperclassman. “All he wants to do is to set up other players to score goals.
“We have some really talented sophomores in Nathan Raccagno, Ryan Michael, and Anthony Bench,” added Deery. “And Jake Sieger is a great player that is only a freshmen.
“It would be a great experience for those young kids to get a chance to play playoff hockey,” continued Deery. “The future of this team is bright.”

Wissahickon Trojans
Wissahickon head coach Mike Wolf and his Trojans close out the SHSHL American Conference schedule with the unique reality that it cannot win a conference title – but can capture a spot in the Varsity ‘A’ Flyers Cup tournament.
“There is no question that both Truman (11-0-0, 22) and Council Rock North (10-1-1, 21) are the best teams in our league,” said Wolf. “But both Truman and North are considered ‘AA’ schools because of enrollment and cannot compete in the Flyers Cup in the ‘A’ division.”
Wissahickon (7-5-0, 12) appears to be the odds-on-favorite to earn a third place finish in the standings – and that would present the Trojans with the Flyers Cup invitation. Wissahickon closes out its regular season against Plymouth Whitemarsh (4-8-0, 8), Truman, and Hatboro-Horsham (3-9-0, 6).
“We know we can get into the Flyers Cup, but we want to concentrate on our league playoffs,” said Wolf. “Truman looks like it will be in first place, and that puts us in third place behind Council Rock North.
“The last time we played North the game went back-and-forth and was tied 5-5,” added Wolf. “They scored a goal late – but we played with them most of the game.
“When you get into the playoffs anything can happen - you only have to be better for that one game,” continued Wolf. “The playoff experience is going to be good for this team. I like the future of our program.”
