WARWICK – Central Bucks South found itself in a bit of a strange situation Wednesday night against Central Bucks East.

The Titans couldn't really get their offense moving. Through the first period, they had only scored two goals.

This was an offense that was averaging more than six goals a game and had a season high 10 goals in one game and 12 in another. Suffice it to say, South did get things straightened out to collect a 4-2 win over the Patriots at Revolution Ice Gardens.

"The last seven minutes or so of the first period, we changed what we were doing," said CB South coach Shaun McGinty. "We started getting too confident too early. The kids kind of got ahead of themselves and were seeing the end of the game before the game was over.

"I had defensemen jumping up trying to get into the play and not doing what they were supposed to be doing. It gave (CB East) a chance to gain confidence.

"Once they started getting confidence, it started messing with our rhythm and then we had to find the rhythm again. But it was hard to find a rhythm because we started getting in penalty trouble."

Jim Stampler, filling in for head coach Ken Latchum, explained the Patriots' methods.

"We tried to forecheck," he said. "That was the plan from the beginning.

"We did it in practice, just forecheck, forecheck. We left a third guy high, which really helped us defensively.

"More important, in our own end, I thought we played five-man defense. That was really the key to slowing them down. They just expect to come in and push you around and we didn't let them do it tonight."

South's Reis Braccio had his own explanation.

"I don't know if it was so much them as more us," he said. "We stopped pushing so hard.

"We just can't do that any more. We (unintentionally) slowed our own offense down.”

In the end, it didn't hurt the Titans as they came back to grab the win. But it did cause some shaky moments.

They took a 2-0 lead on goals by Alex Glushek and Ryan Gingras with only 6:37 gone in the period. It would have been 3-0 but they had a goal waved off because the puck was hit into the net by a high stick at the 5:11 mark.

It looked like South had things going its way, but East bounced back with a power play goal by Sean Gorman with 1:08 left in the period to draw within one at 2-1.

South upped the lead to two goals at 11:09 of the second period, scoring a power play goal by Braccio. However, the pesky Pats came right back with a goal of their own from Gorman with 14:53 gone to make it a one-goal game.

It remained that way through much of the final stanza. The Titans tacked on the final goal of the game with less than two minutes left in regulation, a tally by Matt Milanesi.

"East played well," McGinty said. "If we don't come ready to play, any night we can be shut down."

Stampler was pleased by the effort from the Pats.

"That was a good gut check," he said of the game. "We didn't come out to play last week (a 6-2 loss to Pennridge); this week we came out ready to play. I think they realized that when we come out to play, we can play with anybody."
