Upper Moreland 3, Wissahickon 1
Upper Moreland knocked off the last undefeated team in Suburban One when it defeated American Conference-leading Wissahickon 3-1 on Monday.
"I give the guys all the credit in the world," said Golden Bears' coach Jack Knauss. "They started strong, and they didn't let up."
Upper Moreland led 1-0 at halftime en route to building a 3-0 lead. Tommy Hays scored (Carl Wambold assist) to put the visiting Bears on the scoreboard.
"Carl Wambold played a tremendous game today," Knauss said of his senior sweeper who contributed the assist and controlled the defensive end of the field.
Brian Baist one-touched a pass from Dale Murphy 10 minutes into the second half to add to the lead, then Hays added his second of the game on an assist from Tyler Foerst.
"I told the guys at halftime to get ready, because (Wissahickon) was going to come out like gangbusters," Knauss said. "And they weathered the storm."
Wissahickon scored its lone goal from Devin Memis with about eight minutes remaining in the game.
"I've been coaching 12 years, and this is the third time I've beaten Wissahickon," Knauss said. "So it's a big win, and most importantly, it means we control our destiny. We've got Upper Dublin and Cheltenham coming up, so it doesn't get any easier, but if we take care of the things we can control, we're in a good position."
Upper Moreland improves to 6-3 in league play, 6-3 overall. Wissahickon remains in first place at 8-1, 8-5.
Cheltenham 2, Plymouth Whitemarsh 0
Sophomores Justin McNab and Tim Taliaferro each scored a goal as Cheltenham defeated Plymouth Whitemarsh in Monday's American Conference matchup.
Cheltenham coach Chuck Gesing praised the solid play of junior Fabrice Agbadan as the Panthers improved to 3-5-1 in conference play, 3-6-2 overall. Plymouth Whitemarsh falls to 5-5, 7-6.
Council Rock North 2, Pennsbury 0
Alec Neumann scored off a long throw-in from Ian Fitzsimmons, and Dalton Andrews converted an Alec Greenhalgh corner kick as Council Rock North remained atop the National Conference with a 2-0 victory over Pennsbury on Monday.
"This was a huge game for us," said North coach Wendell Beres. "Everybody did their part. This was the best game a Council Rock North team has played for us in a while.
"This keeps us in control and puts all the pressure back on Pennsbury and Neshaminy."
Derek Antonini played a strong game for the Indians, as did Fitzsimmons. Both are recently returned from injuries.
"We're healthy for the first time in a long time," Beres said. "We're missing Matt Zima, who is a senior captain, but otherwise we're healthy, and that's a big lift."
With the win, North maintains its lead in the National Conference at 8-2-1 (8-2-1 overall). Pennsbury falls to 6-2-1, 7-3-1.
Central Bucks East 2, Central Bucks West 0
Sparked by a stellar defensive effort, Central Bucks East topped archrival Central Bucks West, 2-0, in a key Continental Conference matchup.
"We're taking it game by game," said East coach Mike Gorni. "The guys have been here before. They know they have to show up every game. We can't skip anyone. There's not a team in this league that can't beat us if we don't play our best."
Jacob Nesteruk recorded his eighth shutout of the season as the Patriots improved to 9-2 in league play, 10-2-1 overall to maintain their lead in the conference. West falls to 5-5-1 (6-6-2) and sits in fourth place in the conference.
The Patriots received a stellar effort from Steve Fedele, the team's lone senior on defense. Fedele and his defensive mates, Ryan Vare, Ryan Gleason and freshman Chris Gomez helped preserve the shutout with their solid play in the backfield.
Miguel Diaz assisted on a first-half goal from Sean Jenkins and a second-half tally by Nick McGarry to account for the scoring.
Souderton 1, Quakertown 0
Ryan Molineaux scored off a Luke Hartzell assist midway through the second half and Ryler Afflerbach made five saves to record the shutout as Souderton edged Quakertown, 1-0, in Monday's Continental Conference game and Souderton's Senior Night.
The Big Red, which still has hopes of reaching the postseason, improves to 3-4-3 in the league (6-4-3 overall) and within striking distance of fourth place. Souderton received outstanding play from junior center back Jeff Wolf.
"Jeff was really good tonight, as usual," said Souderton coach Tom Quintois. "This was a great game tonight. Quakertown is a really good team, and their goalie (Nick Lapinski) is outstanding. Their record is so deceiving. It's not easy to beat them."
Quakertown falls to 0-9-2, 1-9-2.
Neshaminy 1, Bensalem 0
Nick Tucci scored the only goal of the game as Neshaminy downed Bensalem, 1-0, in Monday's National Conference game.
The Redskins improve to 8-3 in league play, 10-3 overall. Bensalem drops to 3-7, 4-8.
Pennridge 2, Hatboro-Horsham 1
Michael Gaito scored one Pennridge goal and assisted on the other as the Rams topped Hatboro-Horsham, 2-1 in Monday's Continental Conference matchup.
Jacob Stear scored for the Rams (Gaito assist) in the first half and Gaito added an insurance tally (Justin Csaszar assist) in the second. Steven Catlett made seven saves in recording the win in goal for the Rams, who improve to 2-9 in league play, 3-12 overall. Hatboro-Horsham drops to 4-5-1, 5-6-1.
Central Bucks South 1, North Penn 0 (OT)
Mike Serban scored off an assist from Jarod Meyer in the 88th minute as Central Bucks South remained in second place in the Continental Conference with a 1-0 victory over North Penn in Monday night's matchup.
Meyer fed Serban, who got in behind his defender down the right side and beat the Knights' goalkeeper to the far past.
"The guys played well, and they really rose to the occasion," said Titans' coach Don Brady. "Our defense played well, our whole team played well tonight."
Matt Weigner made 13 saves, including some tough stops, to record his seventh shutout of the season.
The Titans improve to 8-3 in league play, 9-4 overall. North Penn falls to 4-6-1, 6-6-1.

Pennridge 1, Hatboro-Horsham 0
When Stevi Parker steps up to take a penalty kick, Pennridge coach Jorge Rodriguez is more than ready to mark it down as a goal in the scorebook.
"I have 100 percent confidence in her," Rodriguez said of the junior First Team All-League forward. "She's pretty automatic. I wouldn't want anybody else taking it."
Parker didn't disappoint on Monday, scoring on a penalty kick in the 72nd minute to break a scoreless tie and lift Pennridge to a crucial 1-0 win over Continental Conference opponent Hatboro-Horsham. The win also avenges a early season loss in the final seconds to the Hatters.
"This was a must-win for us," Rodriguez said as his Rams remained atop the Continental Conference by improving to 10-1 in the league (13-1 overall). "It was not pretty, but we got it done. I thought Hatboro-Horsham had the better of the play in the first half. We came out flat. This game definitely could have gone either way."
Rodriguez also heaped praise on defender Julia Rufe for her efforts.
"Julia anchored the defense better than ever," he said. "There's no way we could have won that game without her in there leading the defense."
The Hatters fall to 7-3-1, 9-3-1.
Central Bucks South 4, North Penn 2
Junior Taylor Matsinger recorded her first hat trick as Central Bucks South downed North Penn in Monday's Continental Conference matchup.
North Penn struck first on a South own goal three minutes into the game, but the Titans responded with Matzinger goals in the 30th minute (Maddie Vitelli assist) and 39th minute (Kristen Rose assist).
Matzinger capped off the hat trick in the 55th minute, when she took a through pass from Nikki Weiss, beat the keeper and tapped the ball into the net.
North Penn trimmed the lead to 3-2 when Kiara Forte fired in a loose ball off a corner kick, but South added the final goal four minutes later when Weiss scored off assists from Margo Fox and Caitlin Mitchell.
South improves to 8-3 league, 9-4 overall. North Penn falls to 4-6-1, 6-6-1.
Wissahickon 3, Upper Moreland 1
Wissahickon scored a pair of early goals, and a spectacular save on a penalty kick by Trojan goalkeeper Rachel Stone helped set up the final goal as Wissahickon topped American Conference opponent Upper Moreland on Monday.
Wissahickon freshman striker Anna Chiodo-Ortiz scored in the sixth and seventh minutes to put the visiting Trojans up 2-0 early. Upper Moreland's Lindsay Walder cut the deficit to 2-1 late in the first half on a terrific solo effort.
In the 46th minute, goalie Rachel Stone denied an Upper Moreland penalty kick, setting the stage for the game's third goal. The Trojans converted the block quickly as defensive back Meredith Brown took possession, passing forward to midfielder Maureen Beichert and out to winger Alisa Ryan for a cross and lofted goal by inside mid Haruko Arango-Kautz crashing up through the middle.
Other Wissahickon players who received mention from coach Shanna Creamer-Franke were defensive back Laura Frankenfield and winger Katie Ziegler for their tireless effort and team play on the pitch.
"They capitalized on our mistakes early," Upper Moreland coach Joe Joyce said. "We had our opportunities and we didn't put them in the net."
Joyce praised the efforts of junior Morgan Valera, who moved up from her normal position of sweeper to help on offense.
Wissahickon improves to 4-4-1 in league play, 5-7-1 overall. Upper Moreland falls to 2-7, 3-8.
Quakertown 3, Souderton 0
Quakertown could not have picked a better time to break its six-game losing streak.
Under the lights at home, against local and Continental Conference rival Souderton, the Panthers exploded for three second-half goals and downed the Big Red, 3-0.
"We lost six straight one-goal games," said Quakertown coach Mike Koch. "And two of those were in overtime. So it was really nice to get the (winning) result tonight."
Following a scoreless first half, Quakertown moved another player forward in the second half, and a two-and-a-half-minute span saw the Panthers net three goals. Shannon Gibat (Linzi Wolfe assist) put Quakertown on the scoreboard in the 53rd minute. Jami Soriano (Gibat assist) made it a two-goal lead 122 seconds later, and Jordyn Pursel (Soriano assist) added a third goal just 27 seconds after that.
Emily Galluppi played a strong game at sweeper for Quakertown, which held a 17-7 advantage in shots on goal. Jaclyn Parry made six saves in goal for Souderton, which falls to 0-11 league, 2-11 overall. Sarah Fothergill made one save in recording the shutout for the Panthers, who improve to 3-8, 4-8.
"This was really important for the girls," Koch said. "You need to get some verification when you're doing the right thing. They're playing well, they're in every game ... it's nice to get that positive result."
William Tennent 7, Harry S Truman 0
William Tennent celebrated Senior Night in style with a 7-0 victory over Harry S Truman in Monday night's National Conference matchup.
Junior Megan Burns, a JV field player, was called upon to step between the pipes for Tennent -- whose two goalkeepers are out with concussions -- and posted her first varsity shutout. She was supported by the defensive play of Alyssa Ferraro and Jess Lee.
Emily Foley and Ashley Swain each scored two and Taylor Gerstenfield, Alex Pero and Taylor Hopkins each added one for the Panthers, who improve to 3-7 in league play, 4-8 overall. Truman falls to 0-9, 1-9.
"We've played some really good games against some good teams," said Tennent coach Dan Russo. "We played Council Rock North tough, we played South tough. We can't score at times, but we're playing tough.
"We don't have the depth that some other teams have, but their hearts and their efforts are there."
Council Rock South 2, Abington 0
Council Rock South may be a veteran team, but it was the freshmen who shone in Monday's 2-0 win over Abington.
Frosh Nicole Caffey scored a pair of goals for the Golden Hawks and fellow freshman Elissa Dotzman recorded an assist. Senior Samantha Lawson also posted an assist and Liz Eagan earned the shutout in goal for the Hawks, who improve to 9-1 in league play, 11-2 overall.
Cindy Wade led the Ghosts' defensive effort and starting keeper Ali Dobson returned to the nets for Abington. Emily Rankin also turned in a fine game for Abington, which fell so 0-10, 0-12 on the season.
Neshaminy 6, Bensalem 0
Fran Donato scored a hat trick and Megan Schafer had a goal and two assists as Neshaminy rolled to a 6-0 victory over National Conference opponent Bensalem on Monday.
Erin Farrell put the Redskins on the board (Schafer assist), then Donato (Schafer assist) made it 2-0 in favor of the hosts. Katie Suchodolski scored the third goal, then Schafer (Stephanie Donahue assist) made if 4-0 before Donato added the last two, the final tally assisted by Jess Stecklein.
McKenna Mullin posted the shutout in goal for Neshaminy. Megan Wajda patrolled the net for Bansalem.
Council Rock North 3, Pennsbury 0
The Indians received single goals from Sarah Scheidell, Nicole Moonan and Caitlin Hannigan.
