BOYS SOL SOCCER

Central Bucks West 1, Souderton 0
It's been a long, tiring stretch for the Central Bucks West soccer team. As a result of postponements due to the weather, the Bucks have played five games in the past eight days, with several overtime contests among them as well as a 4-0 loss to Central Bucks South on Saturday.
The Bucks entered this week with just one game on the slate, and they made the most of it, downing Souderton 1-0.
"It's been a tough stretch," said West coach Steve Detweiler. "We had four conference games out of those five. It was a tough week. And I thought they rebounded well after coming off our worst game of the year against Central Bucks South. They turned it around."
Steven Cornwell scored in the 14th minute, and the Bucks defense played a strong game in downing Souderton Monday to remain a part of the logjam near the top of Continental Conference.
"It was a back-and-forth game," Detweiler said. "They definitely had their opportunities. We finished a nice ball early on, and I thought we had the better of the play."
Goalkeeper Redd Brown recorded the shutout in goal for the Bucks, who improve to 4-3-1 in conference play, 5-4-2 overall.
"We tried at halftime, a little different formation," Detweiler said. "We kept them out of the final third of the field. All of their looks were from 20, 25 yards out. Redd made the saves he needed to and our defense did a nice job of closing out the game."
The Bucks now have 13 points in the league, two points behind Central Bucks East and Central Bucks South, and tied with North Penn. Haboro-Horsham is just three points back.

Council Rock South 2, Hatboro-Horsham 1
Chase Coleman netted the game-winner early in overtime as Council Rock South edged Hatboro-Horsham 2-1 in Monday's non-league matchup.
The Hatters took a first-half lead on Ryan Smith's goal in the 30th minute. Mike Decscavage evened the score in the 58th minute.
South held a narrow 13-12 edge in shots. Brian Ehrlich made six saves in goal for the Hatters. Dan Lemashov (five saves) and Tyler Caffey (four saves) shared time in the South net.

Central Bucks East 2, Souderton 0 (Sept. 24)
Miguel had two assists to help power Central Bucks East to a weekend victory over Souderton. Diaz assisted on Kyle Clow's goal in the 11th minute and on Nick McBarry's goal in the 18th minute.
That was all the Patriots would need, as goalie Jacob Nesteruk recorded his fifth shutout of the season.

Central Bucks South 4, Central Bucks West 0 (Sept. 24)
Michael Serban scored three goals and Bryan Brady added one as Central Bucks South downed Central Bucks West in a battle of two of the top teams in the Continental Conference.
Serban scored in the sixth minute (Todd Rainey assist), followed a minute later by Brady.
Connor Stackhouse recorded assists on Serban's second and third tallies, which came in the 46th and 47th minutes. Matt Weigner posted his fourth shutout of the season in the victory.

Downingtown West 2, Pennsbury 1 (Sept. 24)

GIRLS SOL SOCCER
Norristown 2, Pottstown 1

Earlier this month, Norristown broke its scoring drought by finding the back of the net in a game against Upper Moreland. While the Eagles had accomplished that goal, they still had one major task to achieve -- to get their first win under second-year coach Jared Elias.
Mission accomplished.
The Eagles traveled to Pottstown on Monday and came away with their first win of the season, a 2-1 victory over the Trojans.
"I thought we controlled the first half," Elias said. "We took a 2-0 lead into halftime. The girls played well in every possible way."
Amanda Assenmacher scored Norristown's first goal, off a restart from about 20 yards out. Fifteen minutes later, Megan Grande scored her second goal of the season and the Eagles' first game-winner of the year.
The Eagles effort showed they are believing in themselves and in their teammates, Elias said.
"Before the game I told them, 'This is a game we can win. There's no reason you shouldn't feel that way,'" Elias said despite having two regular starters out for the non-league contest. "And their play was amazing today."
Elias praised the play of freshmen center back Allison Henning, senior back Racsan Limbauan, senior midfielder Norma Lopez, and freshman goalkeeper Hanna Kqira.

Norristown improves to 1-5 overall on the season.

Pennsbury 2, William Tennent 0
The future is now for Pennsbury.

Freshman Uche Onuoha assisted on a goal from fellow frosh Megan Egeland in the 17th minute, then Onuoha added one of her own (Lexi Brown assist) in the 37th minute to lift the Falcons to a 2-0 victory over William Tennent in Monday's National Conference matchup.
"I think we're just beginning to see a lot of the things they can do," Pennsbury coach Kaitlyn Battiste said of the freshman duo. "They continue to work hard. And the team is doing a nice job getting it to them in the right spots. We're fortunate, even without the two of them, we still have two or three girls crashing on the ball. We've had a good attack."
The solid Falcon defense meant that goalkeeper Sarah McDonald needed to make just three stops to post the shutout.
"The defense played very well," Battiste said. "Everyone did a nice job. This was a really good team effort today. Everyone played well when called upon today."
The Falcons improve to 3-2 in conference play, 3-4-1 overall. Tennent drops to 3-4, 4-4.

North Penn 1, Hatboro-Horsham 1 (OT)
The Maidens scored in the sixth minute on a perfectly executed corner kick when Ashley Vaitis headed teammate Allie Smith's kick into the net. That 1-0 lead held up until just under nine minutes remained in regulation when Hatter junior Ramsey McMenamin scored the equalizer. Neither team generated any serious offensive threats in OT.
"It's very disappointing," Vaitis said. "You put all your hard effort into it, and then they score and tie it back up. We had eight minutes - that's a lot of time to try and come back, but it didn't work out. It's very disappointing."
On the other side of the field, coach Ben Winderman was happy to see his team escape with a tie.
"I was really proud," he said. "To me, that was a win for us. We salvaged a point, and we also learned a lot."
Winderman made some changes to his lineup after a first half that saw the Maidens control play.
"We moved Sydney McNutt to right mid," he said. "That made us more dangerous. They had to pay attention to (that) side a little bit more, and it gave Kellie McGoldrick and Ramsey more space in the midfield. As soon as they start believing in themselves and performing, we start to generate opportunities, and the game changes."
The Maidens had an opportunity to take a 1-0 lead early in the game before Vaitis scored, but the shot went just wide.
"The early part of the first half came back to haunt us when we had opportunities to put them out of it before the second half started, but we didn't finish them," Maiden coach Jim Dehner said. "They're a good team. They're going to rebound. Give them credit for coming back."

Central Bucks East 1, Upper Dublin 0
Abby Emmert scored the only goal of the game in the 39th minute (Paige Marcinkowski assist) as Central Bucks East downed Upper Dublin in Monday's nonleague game.
East remains tied atop the Continental Conference at 6-1 (7-1-1 overall). Upper Dublin sits second in the American Conference at 5-1, 7-3.

Council Rock South 6, Archbishop Carroll 0
Paige McDowell scored a hat trick, and Colleen Diviny, Paula Jurewicz  and Rebecca Davey each scored one as Council Rock South steamrolled nonleague opponent Archbishop Carroll in Monday's game.

Neshaminy 7, Abington 0
Megan Schafer registered a five-point game with two goals and three assists as Neshaminy rolled past Abington in Monday's National Conference tilt.
Schafer got the Redskins on the board (Kacey Cerankowski assist), then assisted on two goals by Katie Suchodolski and one from Erin Farrell. Fran Donato (Stephanie Donahue assist) made it 5-0 Neshaminy before Schafer netted her second (Cali Nelson assist) and Jess Stecklein (Donahue assist) capped the scoring.

Plymouth Whitemarsh 2, Upper Darby 0
Crissy Terraces assisted on both Plymouth Whitemarsh goals as the Colonials tallied two in the second half to pull away from Upper Darby in Monday's nonleague contest.
Terraces set up Amanda Craney in the 61st minute, then fed Nicole Abbott two minutes later to account for the game's scoring.
Jenna Kalman made six saves in the shutout victory.
"We started the game quite strong, we just didn't capitalize on our chances," said PW coach Steve Slack. "We regrouped and came out and had a good second half."

Bayard Rustin 1, Central Bucks East 1 (Sept. 24)
Annie Axenroth scored for Central Bucks East in the 74th minute (Ali Walker assist) to help the Patriots forge a 1-1 tie with nonleague opponent Bayard Rustin (West Chester) on Saturday.
