BOYS SOL SOCCER

Council Rock North 4, William Tennent 2
Matt Zima has been a crucial member of the Council Rock North soccer squad for several years. But while those who score the goals tend to get their names in the spotlight and the headlines, Zima has quietly and consistently done his job with little fanfare from those outside the Indians' team.
On Tuesday, Zima ensured he'd get his chance to stand in the spotlight, scoring his first career hat trick and helping the Indians down a tenacious William Tennent team, 4-2.
"Matt is a kid who was Second Team All League last year, and for good reason," said North coach Wendell Beres. "He's a captain, he's the physical leader of our team. He wins every 50-50 ball.
"I believe those may have been his first three varsity goals of his career. He had a great game today. He doesn't get noticed a lot, so it's good to see him get recognized this time."
Chris Kulczytzky scored the second goal of the game for the Indians, who led 2-1 at halftime.
While Beres was pleased with his team's performance, he had high praise for the opposition as well.
"This is a different William Tennent team from the beginning of the season," Beres said. "They're getting healthier. I thought they were tough from Day 1. It's only a matter of time before they knock somebody off. Today, they were definitely the better team for the first 15, 20 minutes."

Wissahickon 1, Plymouth Whitemarsh 0 (OT)
The two top teams in the American Conference needed the extra frame to decide a winner, and it was Eric Hibbs (Nick Nikic assist) who broke the scoreless tie in the 97th minute and gave Wissahickon the overtime victory over Plymouth Whitemarsh on Tuesday.
Wissahickon outshot the Colonials, 18-4. John Carozza made 2 saves in recording the shutout win for the Trojans. Tyler Haney made nine saves for PW.
With the victory, Wissahickon remains undefeated in league play at 6-0 (6-2 overall). Plymouth Whitemarsh falls to 5-2, 7-3.

Pennsbury 4, Bensalem 0

Central Bucks East 2, North Penn 1
Central Bucks East remained atop the Continental Conference and avenged an early season loss with its 2-1 win over North Penn on Tuesday. East jumped out to a 2-0 halftime lead on goals from Ben Marks (Eric Vare assist) and Miguel Diaz (Marks assist).
"East played a great first half. They put a lot of pressure on us and they scored two very nice goals," said North Penn coach Paul Duddy. "The second half we scored to make it a game again. They had chances ... we had chances. Overall, East deserved to win."
Alex Evans scored North Penn's goal on a setup from Curt Washburn.
The Patriots improve to 6-2 in the league, 6-2-1 overall. North Penn falls to 4-1-1, 5-1-1.

Upper Dublin 2, Cheltenham 0
Upper Dublin scored twice in the first half and held on to secure a 2-0 win over Cheltenham in Tuesday's American Conference matchup.
"We had our chances -- we hit a crossbar in the second half," said Cheltenham coach Chuck Gesing. "It's been a tough year. It's a rebuilding year. We're still trying to find the right combination of players. But they're still battling. They're holding up and they're battling every game."

Hatboro-Horsham 2, Quakertown 0
Hatboro-Horsham remained in the Continental Conference hunt with a 2-0 win over Quakertown on Tuesday. The Hatters led 1-0 at halftime on a Quakertown own goal off a Ryan Smith crossing pass in the 31st minute. Smith then scored for himself in the 63rd minute (Ryan New assist).
Brian Ehrlich made six saves to record the shutout for the Hatters, who improve to 4-2 in the league, 5-3 overall.

Norristown 0, Upper Merion 0
The two American Conference foes battled to a scoreless tie in Tuesday's game. The game was halted with 3:13 left due to possible lightning strikes. The game ended there without playing the final minutes or overtime periods.

GIRLS SOL SOCCER

Plymouth Whitemarsh 2, Wissahickon 1
Kelsey Plona scored twice as Plymouth Whitemarsh remained unbeaten in American Conference play with a 2-1 win over Wissahickon on Tuesday.
Jenna Kalman made eight saves for PW, which improves to 6-0 in the league, 7-0 overall. Wissahickon falls to 1-3-1, 2-4-1.
"They played us tough, " said Colonials coach Steve Slack. "We never got into a rhythm, but the girls fought hard and we got the result we wanted."

North Penn 1, Central Bucks East 0
Ashley Vaitis (Allie Smith assist) scored in the 16th minute and that proved to be the only tally of the game as North Penn bested Continental Conference opponent Central Bucks East on Tuesday.
North Penn held a 9-5 edge in shots.
Laura Leonard made five saves to record the shutout for the Maidens.

Council Rock North 3, William Tennent 0
When these two teams met in early September, Council Rock North used three goals in a 10-minute span to pull away with a 6-0 victory over William Tennent.
On Tuesday, Tennent held the National Conference frontrunners scoreless throughout the first half, but in the end, the potent Indian attack scored three after the break to take a 3-0 win.
"Tennent was a much better team this time around," said North coach Larry Sullivan. "They really gave us a run for our money."
Nicole Moonan scored twice for the Indians. Caitlin Hannigan added the other goal for the Indians, who improve to 6-0 overall and in league play. Tennent falls to 3-4, 4-4.
Council Rock North will take on Neshaminy on Wednesday (weather permitting), then host Strath Haven on Saturday. The following week will feature a visit to Abington and a visit from Harry S Truman.
"They're good kids. They're happy with themselves, but they can't get complacent," Sullivan said. "They're better than they've played in some of these games. I think these next 10 days are crucial to our season."

Neshaminy 4, Abington 0
Megan Schafer and Jess Kelly each scored twice as Neshaminy kept pace in the National Conference with a 4-0 victory over Abington.
Schafer scored the first (Katie Suchodolski assist) and last goal (Kacey Cerankowski assist), while Kelly scored the second (Erin Farrell assist) and third (Schafer assist).

McKenna Mullin recorded the shutout in goal for the Redskins.

Pennsbury 3, Bensalem 0
Pennsbury led 1-0 at halftime and added two goals in the second half to pull away from a young Bensalem team in Tuesday's National Conference matchup.
"We had some opportunities," said Bensalem coach Lew Mladjen. "We sailed three shots over the crossbar. We're doing what we need to do, but it's been difficult to put 80 minutes together.
"It's just one of those things ... I've got seven or eight players who are freshmen or sophomores. Suburban One is a difficult league and there's a learning curve. With so many kids that young, it's tough to deal with adversity when you're playing teams with girls who are older, and it's tough to get to that level you need to go to when you get down."
Pennsbury improves to 4-2 in the league, 4-4-1 overall. Bensalem falls to 2-4-2-6-1.

Hatboro-Horsham 1, Quakertown 0
Hatboro-Horsham received outstanding defensive play from Siobhan Spanninger and a goal from Sydney McNutt as the Hatters topped Quakertown in Tuesday's Continental Conference matchup.
