SOL Softball Wrap (3-27-12)

Check out the results of the SOL softball teams in action on Tuesday.

COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 9, PENNRIDGE 3
The Indians travelled to Pennridge minus several regulars – including star catcher Dom Pinto - believing they were playing a scrimmage. They arrived to discover they were playing a regular season game, and they still had enough firepower to earn the win.
Sophomore Hannah Mumber earned the win on the mound and helped her own cause at the plate, delivering a pair of doubles and driving in a pair of runs. Bailey Bigler (2-for-3, RBI), Tatum Kelly (2-for-4, RBI), and Marissa Gergel (2-for-4) also came up big. Kruse drove in a pair of runs.
For the Rams, Brooke Labs was 1-for-2 with two RBIs while Emily Hofmann was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Paige DeCew absorbed the loss, allowing just three earned runs while striking out six.
The Rams took a 1-0 lead in the first, but the Indians knotted the score in the third and took a lead they would not lose with a three-run third. They led 5-2 heading into the sixth when they exploded for four more runs to seal the win.
While the Indians improved to 2-0, the Rams fell to 2-1.

CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 8, EASTON 0
Haileigh Stocks was all but untouchable on the mound, fanning 17 in an overpowering performance. She allowed just two hits and walked one.
Kristyn Marinelli contributed the big blow for the Titans, a home run over the fence in deep left center. The Titans also received offensive contributions from from Carly Dudek (2-for-3), Stocks (2-for-2) and Morgan Decker (2-for-2, double).
“It was a long ride, but they came out pretty strong,” coach Dan Hayes said of his squad.
The win came on the heels of a 2-1 loss to Christopher Dock last Friday.
“I’m not a yeller or screamer, and I didn’t say anything after the game,” Hayes said. “I talked to them in the bus and just told them that I wasn’t disappointed in them individually but as a team that we weren’t able to put something together.”
In Tuesday’s win, Hayes had to juggle his lineup in the absence of his starting second baseman (injury).
“It worked out very well,” he said.

CHRISTOPHER DOCK 6, NORTH PENN 0
The Maidens were the second SOL team in as many outings victimized by a Dock squad that last year advanced to the state semifinals in Class AA competition.
“They hit the ball today,” Maiden coach Rick Torresani said of the Pioneers. “They got on us early, and we made a couple of errors. When we made mistakes, they finished it off. They’re a good team.
“Their pitcher (Keli Krause) would do well in our conference. Obviously, she’s a senior, and she has a lot of confidence. She hit her spots really well, and she knows when to use the high fastball.
“They have a great shortstop (Holly Seiz). They’re seniors, and when seniors get to this point and have been to where they have been, they should be good.”
Jenn Halcovage was the lone Maiden to collect more than one hit – she had a pair.
