Pennridge 4, Council Rock North 2
Paige DeCew tossed a complete game on the mound, striking out 11 and walking none while allowing just four hits. Emily Hofmann contributed two doubles and two RBIs while teammate Brooke Labs added a single and double and two RBIs.
Dominique Pinto collected two of Rock North’s four hits – which included a double - and also had an RBI. Michelle Hand accounted for a second-inning run when she hit a solo home run. Morgan Lewis absorbed the loss on the mound, allowing seven hits while striking out four and walking a pair.
Central Bucks East 15, Abington 5
The Patriots found themselves staring at a 5-0 deficit heading into the bottom of the third inning but rallied for the decisive win in a game that was halted in the sixth inning. The Patriots scored three runs in the third and four runs in each of the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.
“It was a total team effort,” coach Erin Scott said. “The girls worked together, and I’m really proud of them.
“We have some young pitchers, and our team is playing behind them and helping them out on offense. There’s not much more I can ask for as a coach. We want to keep working hard because we know we’ve got some really strong teams in our conference that we’ll be facing.”
In a glittering offensive showing, Ali Vavala was 5-for-5 with three singles, a double, a home run and six RBIs. She also scored four runs. Caroline Schoenewald was 2-for-4, Julia Schoenewald was 3-for-4 with two triples while Laura Murray was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Jayme Ziegler earned the win on the mound, working the final three innings of the game. She did not allow a hit and only one Ghost base runner reached base, and that came on an error.
Wissahickon 4, Quakertown 2
The Trojans rallied from a 2-0 deficit to earn the win in a tightly-contested non-league game. Katie Ziegler notched the win on the mound, scattering four hits while striking out 14 and walking just two. She also helped her own cause at the plate with a triple and single.
Alex Comonitsky also contributed a pair of hits, which included a double. Rachel Philbin also had a double for the Trojans, who scored a pair of runs in both the fourth and sixth innings to earn the win.
Pennridge 9, Southern Lehigh 4 (3-29-11)
Freshman Emily Mayhew had a successful debut on the mound, working five and two thirds solid innings. She allowed just four hits and no runs while striking out five and walking none. She also was 2-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs.
Jordan Villella, Karlie McCreary, Brooke Labs and Emily Hofmann each had two hits. Hofmann had a pair of doubles and one RBI while Labs had a double and three RBIs. Villella contributed a triple and one RBI.
