COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 4, COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 2
This win was a long time coming for the Indians, who had not defeated their neighboring rival since May of 2021. Throw in the fact that twice last year the Indians saw a late lead slip away in one-run losses to the Golden Hawks, and it’s easy to understand why Tuesday’s win was especially sweet.
But perhaps more important than any of that was the fact that the came four days after the Indians suffered a lopsided loss to Plymouth Whitemarsh.
Tuesday’s win didn’t come easily, but freshman Mia Kiskurno gutted it out to earn the complete game win. Kayla Ripper had a big day at the plate out of the leadoff spot, contributing a pair of hits.
By the numbers: Council Rock North: Kayla Ripper (2-for-3, 3B, 1RBI, 1R), Sierra Klein (1-for-3, 3B, 2RBI, 1R), Zoe Hardy (1-for-3, 2B, 1 RBI)
Mia Kiskurno (W) (7 IP, 11H, 2R, 1ER, 0BB, 8K)
Council Rock South: Veronica Houk (2-for-3, 1RBI, 1R), Julia Scannapieco (2-for-4, 1RBI), Kelly Delise (2-for-4, 2B), Shannon Williams (2-for-4, 2B, 1R)
Key inning: Bottom of first: Kayla Ripper and Oliva Schlindwein led off the game with back-to-back singles. Both moved up a base on Chelsea Seiler’s sacrifice bunt. Sierra Klein’s booming triple to right field sent a pair of runs across the plate, and with two outs, Hardy lined an RBI double to center. (3-0)
Council Rock North coach Susan Yee:
--Bouncing back in a big way: “I could not be more proud of our girls right now. Today was a huge day not only because it was a rivalry game, but it was also going to be a very telling game to see how our team would respond after being kicked in the teeth by PW last Friday (in an 18-0 loss). After that game, the girls showed a ton of character and demonstrated how far they have come in developing a positive culture over the past few years. As a team, the players immediately called their own team meeting before leaving the field on Friday to talk about how that display was NOT Council Rock North softball and how they need to ‘flush it’ and refocus on doing what we do.
“Since then, we have spent a ton of time talking about our mental approach, and they showed a vast difference in that today. South is a great team. They have a senior all-state pitcher to contend with, and they gave us all we could handle with their offense. The girls really bore down in pressure situations today to get out of jams, and they stepped up in key situations to string together hits when we needed it. That mental fortitude was absolutely pivotal in coming away with a win today.”
--Props: “All of the girls were admirable in the mental game today, but three in particular really stood out.
“Freshman Mia Kiskurno was amazing today in the circle. In her first North-South rivalry game, she really kept her nerves at bay when she needed to, and got out of jam after jam, including digging down deep to close out the game with a K while having the tying run in scoring position. That's amazing for any player but absolutely unbelievable for a freshman.
“Leadoff batter Kayla Ripper really set the tone for the team in our opening at-bat of the game. The first pitch she saw drilled her in the hand (she was bleeding under her batting glove, has a bruise, and has seam stitches imprinted on her hand), but unfortunately, the end result was the pitch being called a foul ball instead of a hit by pitch. She could have let that rattle her, but she shook it off, refocused, and led off the game with a hit and ended up scoring the first run of the game. That not only set the tone physically but was a huge table setter for the mental approach the team needed today.
“We also saw the importance today of our lone senior Sierra Klein. We were missing her presence in our loss on Friday, and today she came back and made a huge impact not only as an emotional leader, but hitting a key two-strike, two-RBI triple to jump out on top in the first inning. She is one of the most clutch players I've ever coached.”

NESHAMINY 2, PENNSBURY 1
With two outs and the winning run on second base, Ellie Miller came through in a big way, nailing a shot to center field for a double that plated Jill Rickards for the dramatic walk-off win.
Heading into the bottom of the seventh, it looked as though the Falcons might have all the momentum after staging a two-out rally and knotting the score on a Redskin miscue, but the Redskins got that momentum back in a hurry when Rickards led off the bottom of the inning with a single.
Adriana Superka and Addie Pennisi combined for the win in the circle, allowing four hits.
Zahmira Coppola-Miller’s 3-for-3 day led the Redskins.
By the numbers: Neshaminy: Zahmira Coppola-Miller (3-for-3), Ellie Miller (1-for-4, 1RBI), Addie Pennisi (1-for-3, 1RBI), Ellie Miller (1-for-4, 2B, 1RBI)
Adriana Superka (4.0 IP, 3H, 0R, 1BB, 2K), Addie Pennisi (W) (3.0 IP, 1H, 1R, 0ER, 2BB, 2K)
Key innings: Bottom of third: Maddie Jacoby led off with a double and was replaced by courtesy runner Aimee Benjamin, who stole second. With two outs, Pennisi grounded a single to center.
Top of seventh: With two outs and nobody on, Liv Czerniak drew a walk, stole second and scored on a Neshaminy miscue.
Bottom of seventh: Jill Rickards singled to right field to lead off the inning. She advanced to second on a wild pitch, and two outs later, Miller ripped a double to center field for the walk-off win.”
Neshaminy coach Sarah Martoccio: “We definitely needed this win, and it was good for the girls to be able to have that moment where things didn’t go our way, but then to see them be able to fight back and do something with that was really good to see, especially for us at this point in the season.”
--Bouncing back after Falcons tied it on an unearned run: “When they came in from the huddle, you could see a little bit on their faces that they were obviously upset about what had happened. I also saw that grit in them, and I knew that they were really going to fight hard for this because they wanted that win today.”
--Miller delivers game-winner: “Ellie Miller is our leadoff. She is fantastic. She is the perfect person for that leadoff position. She goes deep into counts, she sees the ball really well, she puts the ball in play. She was hitting the ball hard all game, so I knew it was about time for her to really get ahold of something, and she really did. She hit a shot, and no one was able to even get close to it. It was a long time coming because her three at-bats earlier in the game she was really getting good contact. It was the perfect ending for her on her day at the plate.”
--Superka & Pennisi excel in circle: “Our pitchers need to get so much credit, and they should have for this whole season so far. They have been keeping us in games. Today, they combined to give up four hits. I can’t give enough credit to all my pitchers. It’s our offense that is struggling and hasn’t done too much to support them, but our pitchers have been phenomenal so far this season, and it’s been really awesome to be able to use what we have because we do have such dept in our pitching, and we look forward to using them in that capacity.”
--Sharing time: “I know we have such a strong pitching staff, and these are conversations we have with the girls all the time, and the pitchers know how we like to work that in and just keep teams off balance. The second, third, fourth time you’re seeing a pitcher, it’s a lot easier to make those adjustments, so being able to throw off teams by changing speeds, by changing movements and things like that has been really beneficial to us, and they’re doing a great job.”

PENNRIDGE 6, NORTH PENN 3
Averi Dockery had herself a day.
The Florida State-bound senior not only notched the complete game win, fanning 16, but she also hit a monster three-run blast in the first inning to give the Rams a lead they would not lose. It was the Rams’ first win of the season, and their first over North Penn since 2017 when they eked out a 5-4 win on May 16.
By the numbers: Pennridge: Averi Dockery (2-for-2, HR, 4 RBI, 2R), Lilly Davies (1-2, 1RBI, 1R).
Averi Dockery (W) (7.0 IP, 6H 3R 2ER 5BB 16K)
North Penn: Brandi Groarke (2-for-4), Gabby Battavio (2-for-4)
Key innings: Top of first: Payton Keyser drew a leadoff walk, Lilly Davies legged out a bunt single, and Dockery followed with a mammoth home run to deep left field, plating three runs. (3-0)
Top of fourth: With one out, Destiny Novashinski drew a walk, and Gabby Hamburger doubled. With two outs, Keyser and Davies drew back-to-back walks, the second forcing home a run. Dockery singled over the infield, plating a run (5-0)
Pennridge Kristyn Marinelli: “We certainly got the monkey off our backs. These are the type of games that they want to play in, and being able to play in one of these games was critical to boost their morale to show that they have confidence at the plate, in the field.
“We certainly made mistakes – it was not a perfect game, but at the end of the day, we pulled out a win against an SOL, District 1 and state powerhouse, so we’re proud of that.”
--Dockery dazzles: “Averi is the real deal. She’s a gamer. When she’s in a game and she’s on, she’s on, and if she’s not having her best day, she pushes through it. She was put in some situations today between counts and squeezing the strike zone and having to come up with big outs on her own, and she did. Not to mention her three-run shot that hit the hill. It was like a moonshot. She did a spectacular job.”
--Team effort: “(Averi), of course, is the powerhouse. She’s a stellar athlete and a stellar kid. What we were happy to see is also some of the kids around her contributing too. Today it was nice because we saw little pieces of everybody coming to the plate and making things happen. Lilly Davies had a good bunt, Payton Kaiser was on base three times. The players around Averi played a big role. If we’ve learned anything in the past couple of years, we need that support from everybody, and today we saw that which was good.”

CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 7, CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 3
Twice last year, the Titans fell to the Bucks. They hadn’t forgotten and exacted a degree of revenge when they won the first meeting between the two teams.
South scored four runs in the fourth inning and added three more in the fifth on its way to the win.
Brooke Taylor struck out nine and walked none and did not allow an earned run in the complete game win for the Titans.
Freshman Erin Ruddell led the Titans with two hits and three RBIs while Ella Wheeler and Maddie McClintock both added a pair of hits.
By the numbers: Central Bucks South: Ella Wheeler (2-for-4, 2B, 1R), Erin Ruddell (2-for-3, 3RBI), Maddie McClintock (2-for-4, 1RBI), Cam Lee (1-for-3, 1RBI, 2R)
Brooke Taylor (W) (7.0 IP, 6H, 3R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 9K)
Central Bucks West: Laila Murray (1-for-3, 2B, 1RBI), Taylor Hooven (2-for-3, 1RBI)
Key innings: Bottom of third: Wheeler led off the inning with a single and moved up to second on a sacrifice bunt by Maura Fleming. Back-to-back walks to Maddie Motley and Lee loaded the bases with one out. McClintock singled to center plating a run, and Ruddell followed with a two-run single to left field. A West miscue allowed another run to cross the plate. (4-0)
Top of fourth: West’s Katherine James was safe on an error to lead off the inning and moved up to second on a wild pitch. Two outs later, Murray doubled home a run, and then it was Hooven driving in a run with a single to right. (4-2)
Bottom of fifth: Wheeler lined a double to right to lead off the inning and moved up to third on a sac bunt by Fleming. Motley drew a walk, and Lee followed with an RBI single. With two outs, Ruddell drove in a run with a line single to left and a second run scored on an error. (7-2)
Central Bucks South coach Matt McLaughlin: “CB West beat us twice last year – they beat us home and away, and the score was the same both times, 4-1. This time around we got the better of them. This team is really starting to come together. I’m super excited with where we’re headed.
--Trio of standouts: “Number one, our pitcher, Brooke Taylor, had her best game of the season. She pitched all seven innings. She had nine strikeouts and zero walks, which to me is the one area for her we’re talking about growth, and she really grew in that area today – no walks and nine strikeouts. She scattered six hits over seven innings and gave up three unearned runs. Just an overall outstanding performance by her on the mound to keep us in the game.
“Ella Wheeler, our senior center fielder, continues to stay absolutely dominant with another two-hit performance. She’s batting .625 or even higher on the season, which is unheard of since we’re seeing great pitching. I’m super happy with where she’s at.
“Probably one of the biggest standouts of the day – we have an absolutely phenomenal – you don’t see this type of kid come through a system very often, a freshman catcher who has stepped in for our injured sophomore catcher who was our starting varsity catcher last year. She’s been injured, so Erin Ruddell stepped in and went 2-for-3 with three RBIs today. She had a strike ‘em out, throw ‘em out at second base. Just absolutely commands the field. I’ve never seen someone of her age do what she does at her age. It’s going to be literally impressive to see where she’s at as a senior. She handles the game like a seasoned freshman in college, and she’s a freshman in high school. The way she blocks, the way she just knows where to go with the ball. I can’t say enough positive things about her. She’s a legitimate standout, and she solidified again today why we picked her for varsity. She’s just an overall great kid. I’m super happy with where she’s at.”
--A team effort: “I could talk about a whole bunch of other players right now, but it’s really the team. The team is continuing to be a team. Even our bench is super supportive. I know it’s hard to be on the bench, especially if you’re talented. We have a talented bench, but right now we have a lot of upperclassmen who - it’s just their turn. It’s really exciting to see the girls supporting that. I think that’s why I think something special’s brewing. I continue to say that.
“We lost two big games this year, and they really come down to one swing of the bat. If the swing goes a different way or comes up a foot short, we’re 6-1 right now. That’s why I know something special’s happening. The pitching is really coming together. The hitting has been lights out since the first game of the season. The first game of the season we didn’t hit. Since then, we haven’t stopped hitting. The defense is really top notch right now. We’re minimizing mistakes and just overall executing. I couldn’t be more proud of this group.”

SOUDERTON 10, CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 2
The Indians trailed 2-1 after two innings but outscored their hosts 9-0 the rest of the way. They took a lead they would not lose in a four-run third inning that was highlighted by Josi Tolentino’s two-run home run.
Three pitchers shared time in the circle. Skyler Byrnes started and earned the win.
The Indians pounded out 16 hits, led by the three-hit efforts of Tolentino, Kiera Fadden and Skyler Byrnes.
“I was extremely proud of our girls for an overall great team performance,” Souderton coach Tyler Bui said. “We had 15 players involved in this game. We pitched three players and only gave up two runs. We collected 16 hits with five players having multiple hits and eight players with at least one hit.”
By the numbers: Souderton: Kiera Fadden (3-for-4, 1RBI), Josi Tolentino (3-for-4, 3B, 3RBI, 2R), Skyler Byrnes (3-for-4, 2B, HR, 3RBI, 2R), Ava Detweiler (2-for-3, 2B, 1RBI, 2R), Emma Lewis (2-for-3, 1RBI, 1R)
Skyler Byrnes (W) (3.0 IP, 4H, 2R, 2ER, 0BB, 3K), Bella Kreyenhagen (2.0 IP, 2H 0R, 1BB, 3K), Ava Detwiler (2.0 IP, 2H, 0R, 3K)
Central Bucks East: Elena Bhatt (3-for-3, 2B, 1R), Carly Franklin (2-for-3, 1RBI)
Key inning: Top of third: Trailing 2-1, the Indians erupted for four runs in the third. Megan Borro led off the inning with a walk and advanced to second on Fadden’s sacrifice. Lewis singled to center, plating Borro with the tying run. With two outs, Detwiler lined an RBI double to center, and Tolentino followed and smashed a two-run homer to left field. (5-2)
Souderton coach Tyler Bui on the game: “It was a very slow start for us. CB East had some good swings and played great defense to keep the game close early. They were up to the task today and made us work for every run. They played hard and battled to the end. With how well CB East played, I was glad to see our girls stay the course. Our starting lineup is deep, and our bench is full of talented players. Everyone did a great job of getting things done when their name was called.”
--Unsung Hero: “Megan Borro (freshman) continues to do all the little things that are asked of her. Her box score may look plain, but she got us started today when she drew a walk after working the count full. She went from first to third on a bunt and scored to tie the game. We never looked back after she scored. Later in the game, she laid down a beautiful sacrifice bunt. She is a weapon and does so many things for us at the plate and on the bases.”
--Props: “Josi Tolentino and Skyler Byrnes both had the exact stat line (3-4, 2 runs, 3 RBI, HR). Skyler pitched three strong innings for us and has been swinging such a strong bat that we can't take her off the field. Josi has done everything asked of her this year. She would love to catch all the time, but we have two excellent catchers on this team, and she knows that we have to use her wherever is best for the team. I appreciate that she shows up for the games and is ready to do whatever is asked of the coaches.
“Ava Detwiler and Bella Kreyenhagen came in relief today to pitch four scoreless innings. Ava has been scorching balls everywhere this season, and she plays such a good first base that we want to keep her there as much as possible. She pitched for the first time today since our season opener and threw two strong scoreless innings. Bella can start a game or come in relief, but the results are always the same. She is consistent and gets ahead of batters. It showed again today with her two innings of scoreless relief.”

PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 9, HATBORO-HORSHAM 2
The Colonials used a seven-run uprising in the fifth inning to break a 2-2 tie and take a lead they would not lose. Kalina Childers – who had a two-run double in the fifth – led the Colonials’ 13-hit attack with a 3-for-4 effort that included two doubles, three RBIs and two runs scored.
By the numbers: Plymouth Whitemarsh: Kalina Childers (3-for-4, 2B, 3RBI, 2R), Zoey Robinson (2-for-3, 1RBI, 2R), Rian Reed (2-for-4, 1RBI), Jenna Yablon (2-for-3, 1RBI, 1R), Emily Dobrowolski (1-for-4, 2RBI, 1R)
Rian Reed (W) (4.0 IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 4K)
Key inning: Top of fifth: With the score deadlocked 2-2, PW plated seven runs to put the game out of reach. Childers drew a leadoff walk and advanced to second on a groundout. Anna Powel singled home Childers. Also contributing singles in the inning were Reed, Yablon (RBI), Dobrowolski (2 RBIs) and Robinson (RBI). Childers – in the second at-bat of the inning – drilled a two-run double to center (9-2)
Plymouth Whitemarsh coach Mike Perez:
--A strong start: “We came in ready to play after a few days off and started the game with three straight hits (Robinson single, Childers RBI double, Bono single) before another RBI single by Reed later in the inning. But after an early 2-0 lead, their pitcher (Conn) really settled in allowing just one hit over the next three innings.”
--I thought Conn did a really nice job moving the ball in and out, keeping us off balance. I’m happy with our approach at the plate and our discipline. We chose good pitches to swing at and went deep into counts frequently. It paid off in the fifth when we exploded for seven hits and seven runs. Our lineup is capable of big innings at any moment, as we’ve seen over the past few games. The girls are gaining confidence in themselves and each other with each passing day. We’ll look to keep it rolling Thursday at Abington for another tough league matchup.”
