SOL Liberty Division
PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 4, UPPER DUBLIN 2
The Colonials rode the strong pitching performance Madison Moran, who threw four shutout innings, and some timely hitting to earn the win in a battle of unbeaten squads in division play.
A highlight of the game was UD junior Kyla Garrison collecting the 500th strikeout of a standout career.
“It certainly is quite an accomplishment, especially just eight games into her junior season,” UD coach Heather Boyer. “She continues to maintain great focus and poise and is always looking for ways to improve. That is a huge component to her success.
“She doesn’t settle. Her work ethic is extraordinary, and what makes this so great is that she is also very humble. She is such a personable individual and a great teammate, and it was so nice to see her teammates genuinely excited for her today, too.”
The Colonials scored an unearned run in the first and added a run in the second when Emily Dobrowolski hit a two-out RBI triple. They added a pair of insurance runs in the fifth that loomed large when UD scored a pair of runs in the top of the top of the seventh.
UD’s runs – both unearned – came on a two-out, two -run single by Kaitlyn Zacharia.
Jenna Yablon’s 2-for-2 effort included a double to lead the Colonials.
By the numbers: Plymouth Whitemarsh: Jenna Yablon (2-for-2, 2B), Emily Dobrowolski (1-for-2, 3B, 1RBI)
Madison Moran (W) (4.0 IP, 2H 0R, 0ER, 1BB, 7K)
Upper Dublin: Kaitlyn Zacharia (1-for-2, 2 RBI)
Kyla Garrison (Surpassed the 500-strikeout mark)
Key inning: Bottom of fifth: Leading 2-0, the Colonials added a pair of runs. Zoey Robinson led off the inning with a line single to center, and Kalina Childers followed with a ground single to left. With one out, Anna Powel lined a single to center that plated Robinson. Childers advanced to third and scored on Madison Moran’s sac fly. (4-0)
Plymouth Whitemarsh coach Mike Perez:
--Props for Garrison: “Another gutsy character win for the girls today vs a tough Upper Dublin team and one of the best pitchers in the area in Kyla Garrison. I told the girls from the start that we were going to have to hit to win this one. While we didn’t get a ton of hits, we got some timely ones, and I’m really proud of the girls for executing, working some deep counts and limiting our strikeouts. On a day we’re Kyla eclipsed 500 Ks in her career, we were pleased to only have 5 Ks in the game. We’ve been on the wrong side of a lot of those strikeouts over the past three seasons, but it’s been fun watching Kyla grow each year. She’s a great kid and congrats to her on the great accomplishment.”
--Moran in charge: “Madison Moran did a great job in the circle for us today, going four strong shutout innings and only allowing two hits with striking out seven. We made it interesting late with an error and a few walks, but everyone stayed composed, and we were able to pull off the win.”
Dobrowolski delivers: “We were able to score one run in the first by taking advantage of an error on their part. But then, in the second inning, Emily Dobrowolski had a huge two-strike, two-out triple into left field to score another run. She’s just so calm in the box and never lets big moments get to her. This is a kid whose main sport is field hockey (committed to East Stroudsburg University earlier this year) but we love having on the field with us. She’s the perfect teammate, will do anything you ask as a coach, and just wants to do little things to help the team win. She was inches away from knocking in another run in the sixth after I tasked her with a push bunt.
Offensive highlights: “Jenna Yablon had a big day at the plate too with two doubles and a nice sacrifice bunt early in the game. It’s so nice to get that kind of production from the bottom of your lineup!
“Other offensive highlights: Kalina Childers was able to get on base twice and score two runs. And Gia Bono had two nice at-bats to draw walks and score a run. On the road tomorrow for an important non-league game vs an always well-coached and solid Pennsbury team.”
Up next: Plymouth Whitmarsh (7-3, 5-0 SOL) will travel to Pennsbury for a non-league game Tuesday, and Upper Dublin (7-1, 3-1) will be on the road at Quakertown Tuesday.

William Tennent coach Frank Hubmaster: “It was an exciting day and hard -fought win as we celebrated the seniors on both teams in front of a large crowd. Myself, Coach Hannah and Coach Ron are all very proud to be part of such a special group.”
--Defensive play of the game: “Great defense, highlighted by Morgan Kocher’s leaping grab to steal a potential game tying home run and record the final out, led us to the win on a day the bats were not has hot as recent games.”

SOUDERTON 5, HATBORO-HORSHAM 0
Skyler Byrnes tossed a four-hit complete game gem, and the Indians scored all the runs she would need in a two-run third inning.

Top of seventh: Byrnes hit a one-out single to center and was replaced by courtesy runner Caylee DeSimone, who advanced to second on a passed ball and scored on a single by Kendal Nelson. Kreyenhagen doubled to center, and Fadden was hit by a pitch. A pair scored when Emma Lewis singled to center. (5-0)
Souderton coach Tyler Bui: “Hatboro-Horsham played a great game today. They made plays, and Kennedy Conn pitched a masterful game for them. She did a nice job of keeping our hitters off balance. We pride ourselves on pressuring pitchers by working deep counts and hitting balls hard, even if they are at people.
“Today, we struggled to get good swings, so all the credit to Kennedy for her fine performance on the mound. Fortunately, we were able to string a few hits together and got down a few bunts. Ava Detwiler got us going with her line drive off the top of the fence that scored two runners. We woke up a little after that hit, but we still had to work hard for the three runs we tacked on later in the game.”
--Props: “Skyler Byrnes was very consistent for us on the mound. She worked out of a few jams, and really did a nice job of keeping Hatboro-Horsham scoreless until we could manufacture a few runs for her.
“Isabella Kreyehagen has been doing whatever is asked of her. She came up with a big hit today and did her job at third base for us. Tomorrow, she will lace up her cleats and get back to work on the mound for us. I appreciate players like Bella, who will do whatever it takes to help the team win.”
Up next: Souderton (8-2, 4-1 SOL) will host Upper Perkiomen on Tuesday, and Hatboro-Horsham (5-6, 1-4) will be on the road at Central Bucks West for a non-league game Thursday.

Bottom of third: A walk and an error set the stage for a two-run double by Sammy Hooven, who scored when Swain followed with a double that knotted the score 3-3.
Central Bucks West coach Mike Daher: "This was a very good win for us today against a very good Philadelphia Catholic League team. Sandy Hart does an outstanding job coaching the girls at Conwell-Egan Catholic, and they compete at a very high level. Their shortstop was truly outstanding today. She makes every play and is incredibly efficient as a defensive shortstop. She was involved in two ground ball double plays that helped keep runs off the board for her team.
“I am extremely proud of our girls that they were able to battle back in the seventh inning and pull out a big win for us today. Ana Glemser was outstanding in the circle again for us and kept us in the game until the seventh by pitching out of some very difficult innings. This was a good win for us today and definitely something to build on moving forward."
