National Conference

HARRY S TRUMAN 11, ABINGTON 5
The Tigers took a three-game losing streak into Tuesday’s game, and they took out their frustrations on the Ghosts, exploding for five runs in the second inning to break a 2-2 tie and take a lead they would not lose. They added a single run in the third to go on top 8-2 before the Ghosts scored three runs in the fourth to make it an 8-5 game. The Tigers added a single run in the fourth and two more in the sixth for the 11-5 final.
Cheyenne Jones set the tone for Truman’s big offensive performance with a triple to lead off the first. She finished the game with two hits and two runs scored. Tiffany Koenig was 2-for-4 with two RBIs while Felicia McCreery was 2-for-3 with a home run and two runs scored. McCreery’s home run was a solo shot to lead off the third.
All told, the Tigers pounded out 13 hits.
“Hitting the ball has not been our problem this year,” Truman coach Gretchen Cammiso said. “It’s been the defensive side – I was more happy that for the first time in a real long time we didn’t have any errors today, so that was the key.
“We’ve been scoring runs, but we’ve had defensive letdowns. Typically, it’s one inning that gets us.”
Cammiso pointed to her team’s 10-3 loss to Neshaminy on Friday as an example.
“We were up 3-0 going into the fifth inning, and we let them score seven runs in the fifth inning,” the Tigers’ coach said.
Sophomore Caitlin Braiser earned the win on the mound for the Tigers, who improved to 4-2 in league play (5-6 overall). The Ghosts saw their record drop to 2-5 in the league (6-7 overall).

BENSALEM 15, COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 0 (3 innings)
The Owls snapped a three-game losing streak with Tuesday’s big win. Jen Campbell led Bensalem’s hit parade with a productive 2-for-3 day at the plate that included a pair of home runs and seven RBIs. One of Campbell’s blasts was a grand slam.
Leadoff batter Tatyana Keshanech also had a big day at the plate, finishing 3-for-3 with a stolen base and three RBIs.
“We came in with a good approach hitting,” coach Dan Schram said. “We’ve been there before where Council Rock South was, but what we’re excited about is that we’re back to hitting with confidence. We’re hitting with good plate discipline, and the girls felt good.”
Jackie Morell earned the win on the mound, tossing a two-hitter in the abbreviated contest.
The Owls are 2-5 in league play (6-5 overall), and the Golden Hawks are 1-5 in the league (2-8 overall).

NESHAMINY 16, COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 0 (3 innings)

HATBORO-HORSHAM 2, NORTH PENN 1
For the second time in eight days, the Maidens showed they could play with the SOL’s best, extending the defending state champions to the limit before falling by one run. Michele Holweger accounted for the Maidens’ lone run – the junior second baseman hit a solo home run in the fourth inning to cut the Hatters’ 2-0 lead in half.
The Hatters plated a pair of runs in the top of the fourth. Both were unearned as they capitalized on a bunt single by Jackie DiPietro, a walk and a costly two-base error that allowed a pair of runs to cross the plate.

The Panthers got on the scoreboard in the sixth. Becca Robison walked and moved up to third on Courtney Derstine’s single. Both runners scored on wild pitches.
Paige DeCew earned the win on the mound, allowing six hits and no runs while walking one in five innings of work. Mayhew tossed the final two innings, allowing two runs on one hit and three walks while fanning four. Jess Cramp absorbed the loss for the Panthers.

American Conference

WISSAHICKON 7, CHELTENHAM 6 (12 innings)
In the SOL’s most exciting game of the day, the Trojans eked out the thrilling win in 12 innings.
“I’ll tell you – they’re a good team,” Wissahickon coach John Bilella said of the Lady Panthers. “Their pitcher (Lesenia Santiago) is very good. They had some real nice catches and played very good defense.
“We hit the ball hard. They really played well.”
Once again Katie Ziegler found herself in a starring role for the Trojans. The senior hurler delivered a two-out, two-run triple in the top of the 12th inning to win the game.
“She has a bad quad, and she hit a ball in the 12th inning that was just unbelievable,” Bilella said. “Any other time, it would have been a home run, but I held her at third. She couldn’t run any more.”
The Lady Panthers got one of those runs back in the bottom of the inning, but Ziegler and the Trojans held on for the win.
Ziegler allowed 11 hits and three earned runs while fanning 19 and walking one.
“It was wild, but Katie is just phenomenal,” Bilella said. “She made some defensive plays that really kept us in the game.
“She caught a line drive in the 11th that was going right up the middle with a girl on third and two outs, and she just snapped it right out of the air. She knocked a ball down at the pitcher’s mound, picked it up, looked at third base and still threw the girl out at first base. She’s just a phenomenal kid.”
Rebecca Marinnucci and Ziegler both had three hits to lead the Trojans while Alex Comonitski and Britt Gelman each had two hits.
The Trojans improved to 5-0 in league play (7-1 overall) while the Panthers are 3-3 in the league (5-8 overall).
