ABINGTON 7, COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 4
Raechel Holden delivered a three-run home run in the fifth inning to break a 3-3 tie and propel the Ghosts to the dramatic win. Making the win even more significant was the fact that the Ghosts rallied from an early 3-0 deficit.
“Council Rock North is a good team,” Abington coach Ellie White said. “They’re solid one through nine, and to come back from 3-0 is huge for our team.
“We’re still getting our feet wet. We’re going out and taking it one pitch at a time, and hopefully, things fall where they’re supposed to. We’re trying not to look ahead but take it pitch by pitch and go from there. The kids are giving everything they have.”
The Ghosts tied the game 3-3 when Rachel DeCarlo delivered a two-run single with two outs in the third inning.
With the score deadlocked, White brought Lizzie Lloyd into the game, and she silenced the Indians’ bats in the fourth and fifth, setting the stage of Holden’s fifth inning home run that put the Ghosts on top 6-3.
“She just blasted one,” White said. “If it rolled to the stadium, I would not be surprised.”
The Indians plated a single run in the sixth, but the Ghosts answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning for the 7-4 final.
Jamie Gosselin led the Ghosts with two hits and two runs scored. The Indians were led by the two-hit efforts of Dom Pinto (double) and Hannah Mumber.
The Ghosts are 2-0 in league play (3-0 overall) while the Indians fell to 1-2 in the league (1-3 overall).
HARRY S TRUMAN 11, COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 1
The Tigers exploded for five runs in the second and scored four more in the fourth to seize control of Thursday’s contest. Cheyenne Jones had a big day for the Tigers, collecting a pair of hits and driving in four runs. Bridget Hunt was 2-for-4 with three RBIs, and Jess O’Neil had two hits, including a double, and one RBI.
The win was the first of the season for the Tigers (1-2, 1-1 SOL).
“We opened with Pennsbury and Neshaminy, so we knew we were in for probably a couple of ‘L’s,” coach Gretchen Cammiso said. “Obviously, Pennsbury and Neshaminy are the top teams, but it’s going to be a dog fight for third place.”
Caitlin Brasier earned the win on the mound for the Tigers.
The Golden Hawks are 0-2 in league play (1-2 overall).
PENNSBURY 8, WILLIAM TENNENT 4
The Falcons plated five runs in the first inning and led 8-0 before the Panthers staged a late rally.
“They got a couple of base hits, and we played a little sloppy,” coach Frank McSherry said. “We gave them five outs in one inning.
“Tennent battled, and you can’t give them extra outs. It was one of those games we won, but I wasn’t happy. I said to my assistant, ‘I don’t know when we won a game that I felt so miserable.’”
Taylor Boltersdorf and Suzanne Swanicke each collected two hits to lead the Falcons. The Panthers were led by the two-hit efforts of Elise Wood, Nikki Alden, Amber O’Toole and Kaitlyn O’Toole.
The Falcons are 3-0 in league play (4-0 overall) while the Panthers are 0-2 in the league (1-3 overall).
NESHAMINY 15, BENSALEM 2

Julia McGovern was 3-for-3 with three doubles and two RBIs to lead the ‘Skins. Sam Offenback was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and Lauren Quense was 2-for-4 with a pair of home runs and four RBIs.
Quense also earned the win on the mound, scattering four hits and allowing no earned runs while fanning 13. Her thoughts, however, were on her former pitching coach, Joe Bonner, who passed away on Monday. Bonner was Quense’s first pitching coach and was considered one of the top pitching coaches in Bucks County for many years.
The Redskins are 2-0 in the league (3-0 overall) while the Owls are 0-2 in the league (0-4 overall).

CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 3, NORTH PENN 2
In a battle of the reigning district and state champions, it was the defending state champion Titans rallying for the important win on the heels of a loss to Pennridge two days earlier.
“We talked to the girls about it – it really was a big win,” coach Dan Hayes said. “(Assistant coach) Victor Volpe was saying when we walked off the field that 1-1 is certainly a lot better than 0-2. You start stringing these losses together, bad things can happen.
“We didn’t run the bases very well, and we didn’t play good defense, but it was a very good win.”
The Maidens took a 1-0 lead in the first and tacked on a single run in the third after Michelle Holweger, who had doubled, scored on a base hit to right field by Alexa Gable.
Trailing 2-0, the Titans responded with a three-run fifth. Ally Horvath got things started with a one-out double, and Hallie Bilker followed with a single. A walk loaded the bases, setting the stage for Hailey Warner’s blooper down the right field line that plated a pair. Kristyn Marinelli singled up the middle to plate the game winner.
“We had hit some balls hard, but nothing fell in,” Hayes said.
Marinelli earned the win on the mound, scattering five hits and striking out nine.
“She did a nice job,” Hayes said. “Her location was off against Pennridge, and it was nice for her to bounce back today.”
Vicky Tumasz absorbed the loss on the mound for the Maidens, who were without starting hurler Jackie Bilotti (illness).
The Titans (3-1) and Maidens (2-1) are both 1-1 in league play.
PENNRIDGE 3, QUAKERTOWN 1
The Rams plated a pair of first inning runs and made those runs stand as they upped their early season record to 5-0 (2-0 SOL). Paige DeCew went the distance for the Rams, striking out nine and walking none. On a day that saw the Panthers collect 13 hits, she managed to get the big out when she needed it.
Offensively, freshman Briana Gery, according to coach Paul Koehler, had a career day. She went 3-for-4 with three doubles and one RBI. Alison Horne was 2-for-4 at the plate.
In the Rams’ sixth, Bridget Casey reached base on a two-out bunt single and stole second, setting the stage for Gery’s third double of the day – this one plating Casey with an insurance run.
Jess Cramp absorbed the tough loss on the mound for the Panthers, scattering nine hits and limiting the Rams to just three runs. She helped her own cause with a 2-for-4 day at the plate and delivered the team’s lone RBI in the bottom of the first inning. Emily Reis had a huge day at the plate, finishing a perfect 4-for-4. Janelle Croissete and Meghan Lopes were both 2-for-4.
The Panthers are 1-1 in league play.
HATBORO-HORSHAM 4, SOUDERTON 2

Heather Lutz was 2-for-4 with a double to lead the Hatters while Sarah Derstine was 2-for-2 to lead the Indians.
The Indians had a base runner on board in the seventh with Derstine at the plate, but the game ended when the runner was gunned down at second attempting to steal. The Indians had a total of seven stolen bases on the day.
Nicole Casagrand earned the win on the mound, allowing six hits while walking two and fanning six. For the Indians, Salina Allebach threw 6.1 innings and allowed two earned runs.
While the Indians fell to 0-2 in the league (2-3 overall), the Hatters improved to 2-0 in the league (4-0 overall).

The Patriots took a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Caroline Schoenewald and Kerry Schulz got things started with singles, and both scored on a sacrifice fly by Allie Chase. Jess Haug followed with an RBI triple. East tacked on its final run in the fourth inning when Julia Schoenewald, who tripled, scored on Theresa Haug’s RBI single.
Julie Schoenewald was 2-for-2 and threw out a runner on a steal attempt at second.
Jayme Ziegler earned the win on the mound, allowing five hits.

WISSAHICKON 4, SPRINGFIELD (MONTCO) 3
Brittany Gelman delivered a walk-off two-out triple in the seventh inning, propelling the Trojans to the dramatic win. Donna Intintolo, who reached first on a two-out error, scored the game winner.
“It was a great win,” Wissahickon coach Johnny Bilella said. “They scored three runs in the first and we just have had a tough time hitting the ball.
“She (Gelman) just hit a rope down the third base line – a line drive over the leftfielder’s head. It was really nice.”
The Spartans took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Trojans plated a single run in the fifth inning and added two more in the sixth.
“I told them I don’t think I was ever 0-3 in career, but they never game up,” Bilella said. “They really didn’t. They kept on coming, and it was really kind of dramatic because our pitcher (Emma Goodrich) played with most of the kids from Springfield.”
Bilella credited senior catcher Ashley Anderson for turning in a solid defensive effort.
“She had a couple of putouts,” the Trojans’ coach said. “She had a beautiful throw to third base to get a girl out, and she had a couple of catches against the screen.
“She had a great day. I felt so good for her because out of all of them she tries the hardest. She’s a go-getter.”
The win was the first of the season for the Trojans (1-2, 1-1 SOL).
“It was important,” Bilella said. “We just played in some nasty weather. The first two games – it was just treacherous for both teams.”
The Spartans fell to 0-2 in league play (1-2 overall).
UPPER DUBLIN 5, NORRISTOWN 1 (8 innings)
The Flying Cardinals won a thriller on Thursday, exploding for four runs in the eighth to earn the important win.
