“Methacton just did a real good job,” coach John Whitney said. “They hit the ball pretty good”
The Warriors served noticed that they could do some damage, plating five runs in the first, but the Vikings answered with one of their own in the bottom of the inning and then knotted the score with four in the second. The Vikings led 6-5 after three innings and 7-6 after four, but they didn’t score the rest of the way while the Warriors put 11 runs on the board over the final three innings.
“We came back and took the lead, and I think we sat back a little bit,” Whitney said. “One of my players even said that after the game.
“We lost our intensity a little bit, and Methacton picked it right back up and started hitting the ball. You have to give them credit on that. They put the game out of reach because we were right there.”
Nicole Kowalski led the Vikings with a 3-for-3 effort that included a double. Olivia Sblorlini had a pair of hits.
The Vikings collected nine hits while the Warriors pounded out 22.
“You have to give Methacton credit – they hit the ball,” Whitney said. “We talked about it afterwards – if we’re going to have one of those games, it’s a good time to have it now, and maybe it’s a little bit of a wake-up call for us.
“We have a lot of work to do. We have a lot of good players, but we have a lot of work to do. We’ve been starting off slow, and hopefully, we can get rid of that.”
Upper Merion (1-1, 1-0) will host Plymouth Whitemarsh on Tuesday.
