Hatboro-Horsham 10, Garnet Valley 0

The Hatters celebrated Senior Day with a no-doubt-about it non-league win over Garnet Valley.
All four seniors made important contributions, but perhaps no one enjoyed the day more than senior Mary Kate Ballerino, who roped an RBI double to left center in her first varsity at-bat in the second inning. The run gave the Hatters – who scored a first-inning run as well – an early 2-0 lead.
Ballerino finished the day 1-for-3 with an RBI.
“She was very excited,” coach Joe DiFilippo said of Ballerino. “I’m glad it worked out for her.
“She hit the first pitch. Maggie Shaffer’s father (the team scorekeeper) said to her, ‘Go up there, take your time, and look for your pitch.’ Their girl was a little bit wild, but she saw that first and she hit a double. It was good.”
The Hatters blew the game wide open with a four-run outburst in the fourth with senior Julie Wambold delivering the big blow – a two-run home run. Wambold finished the day 3-for-4 and was only a triple shy of hitting for the cycle.
Senior Melissa Spinossa – who bats leadoff – was 2-for-3 with three RBIs, and senior Danielle DiFilippo also contributed a hit and two RBIs for the Hatters.
Maggie Shaffer earned the win on the mound, allowing just one hit in four innings while striking out nine and walking none.
Camden Catholic 2, Neshaminy 0
Laura Messina lived up to her billing as one of South Jersey’s top pitchers, fanning 13 and scattering four hits in a winning effort for Camden Catholic. The senior hurler, bound for Central Connecticut University, entered the season with 803 strikeouts, and after Saturday’s game, she has 967.
“We had four hits, and they had two, but we had a couple of costly errors,” coach Dave Chichilitti said. “Their pitcher – Laura Messina – is an amazing pitcher.
“It was a great game to prepare us for the playoffs, facing that kind of pitching. She was fantastic.”
Sarah McGowan turned in a gem of her own, allowing just two hits, but the Redskins were victimized by their own errors.
North Penn 6, Downingtown West 1
Kellianna Bradstreet picked up her 12th win of the season in 13 outings, allowing seven hits while striking out three and walking two.
Jess Mower paced the Maidens at the plate, finishing the day 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored.
As a result of the win, the Maidens upped their record to 12-4 overall.
