SOL Swimming 2A Wrap (3-17-17)

LEWISBURG - Friday brought the conclusion of the PIAA Class 2A swimming championships at Bucknell University’s Kinney Natatorium.

Springfield’s Ben Van Meter finished 11th in the 500 freestyle (4:47.63).

Van Meter, Jason Boles, Jake Cawley and Ethan Ford placed 16th in the 400 freestyle relay (3:21.56).

For Springfield’s girls, Trinity Schmidt finished 17th in the 500 freestyle (5:17.00) and Megan Leibfreid was 17th in the 100 backststroke (59.66).

The Class 3A meet will be held Saturday and Sunday.

Thursday, March 16
Springfield was the only SOL team in action at the first day of the PIAA Class 2A swimming championships, held at Bucknell University’s Kinney Natatorium on Thursday.

The Spartans finished 15th in the boys 200-yard freestyle relay. Ben Van Meter, Jason Boles, Sam del Rio and Ethan Ford touched in 1:31.23.

In individual events, Van Meter finished 11th in the 200 freestyle (1:44.89) and Ford was 26th in the 50 freestyle (22.42).  

Jake Cawley, Justin Smith, del Rio and Ford took 21st in the 200 medley relay (1:43.88).

Springfield’s girls team finished 15th in the 200 freestyle relay. Megan Leibfreid, Gwyn Cooney, Emily Cooney and Lizzie Nadolski touched in 1:41.51.

Due to the snowstorm, the meet was pushed back a day and went to timed finals throughout the competition. Diving has been moved to Saturday, March 25 and Sunday, March 26.

The Class AA meet concludes on Friday. Class AAA will beheld Saturday and Sunday.
