SOL Semifinalists Punch Their Tickets to Hershey

Heading into the 2020 SE Regional finals at Souderton Area High School, nine Suburban One League wrestlers clinch their spots in Hershey.  Four of those wrestlers will have repeats of matches from last week’s District One East tourney.  Council Rock South’s Kyle Waterman will face off with CR North’s Luke Lucerne in the 126-pound final, and at 132-pounds, William Tennent’s T.J. England will battle Zack Martin from Neshaminy.  Waterman will attempt to avenge a finals loss to Lucerne, and England will look to avenge his semifinal loss to Martin from a week ago.  Nonetheless, all four wrestlers have advanced to the 2020 PIAA Individual State Championships.

Bensalem’s Connor Eck (145), CR South’s Cam Robinson (152), Neshaminy’s Gunnar Spain, Plymouth-Whitemarsh’s Paolo DiSanto (220) and DiSanto’s teammate, heavyweight Mike Miller all have qualified for states with their semi wins.  Disanto and Miller remained undefeated with their wins, both are now 34-0.  Disanto becomes a three-time state qualifier.

Eck will take on Antonio Petrucelli (Owen J Roberts) in the 145-pound final.  Petrucelli was fifth at states year ago.  Robinson will have a new regional final foe in Spring Ford’s Jack McGill, as Hatboro-Horsham’s A.J. Tamburrino lost his semifinal bout to McGill 4-3.  Gunnar Spain will face Matt Romanelli (Downingtown East) in his title tilt at 170-pounds.  Spain lost to Romanelli in a district dual match-up, thus he’ll be looking for revenge.  DiSanto is looking for his first regional title, and will need some magic against a very tough Chase Mielnik from Downingtown West.  Fellow Colonial Mike Miller will need everything he has against former state champion Ryan Catka from Sun Valley to win the heavyweight title.

Semifinal losers have an easier task to qualify for the state tournament, and many others will have to wrestle all the way back through the consolation rounds to get their chance to advance.  The finals are set for 6 PM.
