Pennsbury 37, Abington 30
The Falcons escaped with a win over an improving Abington squad. The Ghosts split the 14 bouts evenly but came up short on bonus points.
Two bouts made the difference for Abington. Aldan Shea lost track of the score of his bout against the Falcons’ David Mills at 152. Instead of wrestling conservatively with a one-point lead, he gave up two back points and lost 6-5.
At heavyweight, Angel Carlo was unable to pin Pennsbury’s Luke Zaccarelli, which saved the Falcons three more points (although at that juncture it was a moot point).
But Abington coach John Gillespie was pleased with Mike Molz and Mike McCaughey, who both jumped a weight and won their bouts.
“I’m happy with the way the kids wrestled,” said Gillespie. “I saw a lot of stuff they were doing that we’ve been working on in the room.”
The Falcons soared to a big lead early, sweeping the first four weight classes. Eric Mangiello, Jason Bing, Anthony DiEmidio and Josh DiSanto, who was down to 126 for the first time, all recorded pins to give Pennsbury a 24-0 lead.
