ERDENHEIM - With administrators, coaches, family members and teammates looking on Thursday afternoon, Springfield (Montco) seniors Katelyn Gilinger, Bailey Krewson and Riley Woron were recognized for their selection as Univest Featured Athletes.
Annette Szygiel, on behalf of Univest, made the presentations.
“At Univest, we firmly believe in giving back to the communities we serve, and through our partnership with Suburban One Sports, we are proud to be able to recognize the hard work the students, coaches and administrators put into making their athletic programs a success,” said Szygiel, Executive Vice President & Chief Experience Officer at Univest. “Community is one of our core values at Univest, and through our Committed to Local philanthropic giving program, last year we donated $1.2 million to the local communities we serve – with nearly half of that going to support educational initiatives.
“We know it is through extra-curricular activities such as athletics that schools are able to cultivate their sense of community and engage with students in a meaningful way beyond the classroom.
“Each of these student-athletes has earned respect on and off the field, and we know that this was not done alone. So we would also like to acknowledge the families that support these students – as a parent, I am very familiar with the rides to and from practices, travel to tournaments, equipment needs and scheduling challenges. Congratulations on raising well-rounded students who have earned the admiration of their peers and coaches.”
Szygiel, on behalf of Univest, presented certificates and gift bags to Gilinger, Krewson and Woron.
Each week throughout the school year two seniors of high character are recognized as Univest Featured Athletes on SuburbanOneSports.com with close to 500 student-athletes honored over the years. It is only through the web site’s longstanding partnership with Univest that it is possible to tell the stories of these remarkable student-athletes.
“As an athletic director and an assistant principal, it is a major goal of mine to celebrate the achievements of our students,” Springfield athletic director Jason Pane said. “It is even more exciting for me to see organizations outside of our school recognizing our kids. I'm appreciative of Univest's efforts in our community and felt immense pride as they spoke about each of our Spartans.
“The Univest Featured Athlete recognition gives those who follow high school sports an opportunity to learn the stories behind these wonderful athletes, not just highlights of their on-the-field accomplishments. This celebration of kids overcoming obstacles, achieving in the classroom, and producing on the athletic field provides teachers, coaches, parents, teammates, and school administrators a chance to focus on what's most important: the growth of kids to young adults.
“I'm thankful to Suburban One Sports for their coverage of our school and to Univest for their kindness to our kids. I'm also quite proud of our Spartan community as they filled the room to support our three award winners."
Pane and Springfield Principal Dr. Charles Rittenhouse both shared words of appreciation to Univest.
