On Wednesday, May 24, 2023, Springfield Township senior Emily Jackson was recognized for committing to continue her field hockey career at Allegheny College.
Emily Jackson – Allegheny College (Field Hockey)
Major: Pre-Med
Final list of colleges: Allegheny, Lycoming, Washington College
Reasons for choosing Allegheny: “When I met the team, they seemed really put together. I really like the campus and how everything is really close. Everyone on the team seemed to be having majors close to mine, so they knew what they were doing and could help out. I just liked the team dynamic a lot.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in field hockey at the collegiate level? “I played field hockey since third or fourth grade, and once I hit high school, coach (Linda) Nixon, who I had freshman and sophomore year, really helped inspire me to want to play more and always thought I needed that extra push of confidence. I just love playing. It’s a passion of mine.”
Coach Anita Stum says: “Emily Jackson was a defender for us, and she was just a force to be reckoned with in the defensive circle and on defensive corners. Her communication was key to everything we did back there. She really led with authority, and she just really stepped to the ball, so she would beat other attack players just with that step. She’s very good with marking and really had a high field hockey IQ. She has a heart of gold, she’s a really hard worker, and she has always held down a job, practice and school. She’s all-academic for the state and all-academic for the national.”
