Sterling Limo Players of the Game (Wk 10)

Sterling Limousine and Transportation Services of Wrightstown is proud to recognize the Players of the Game for SOL teams that are part of each week’s SuburbanOneSports.com’s Featured Games.

COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH at COUNCIL ROCK NORTH (CR South 17, CR North 0)
Sterling Limousine Offensive Player of the Game –Brian Donnelly, Council Rock South
The Golden Hawks’ senior quarterback rushed for 135 yards on 23 carries, which included a 39-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter that put Rock South on top 14-0. He also completed one pass for 20 yards.
CR South Coach Vince Bedesem says:  “Brian did a real good job for us again, orchestrating the offense and keeping his composure. Even though I’m not real happy about some of the mishaps with the center-quarterback exchanges – those are things in big games when they do occur you cannot allow them to affect you. He gave up the ball early in the game, and we gave them a short field. I said to him coming off the field, ‘Short memory,’ and he did that. He did a great job of just coming out and leading the offense, reading what needed to be read, spreading the ball around a little bit. The offensive line was starting to dig in and get a little bit of a rhythm. That allowed Brian to open up. He had a big score, which took a load off of our minds with that second touchdown. When he gets in the seam, when he gets in the open field, it’s lights out. He’s been doing a super, super job for us all year long.”

Sterling Limousine Defensive Player of the Game – Andrew Cohen, Council Rock South
The Golden Hawks’ senior defensive lineman spearheaded a brilliant defensive effort that allowed the Indians to collect just six yards on the ground and 150 in the entire game. Cohen had a huge sack as well as several tackles for losses.
CR South coach Vince Bedesem says:  “Andrew just pressed the issue all night long on the line of scrimmage. What we have been preaching for several years and a lot this year is that you’re going to win games by controlling the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. He did it on offense, and he did it twice as well on defense. He was in their backfield all day long, putting pressure on their quarterback. They tried to run sweep plays and a draw play, and he was sitting on it. He’s very, very explosive. I keep saying to everybody, ‘This kid is the steal of the century as far as college football is concerned.’ I know I’m biased, but I can be very objective. He just stands out. That’s just the type of player he is.”

Sterling Limousine Special Teams Players of the Game – Ben Solis & Austin Fizel
While Solis kicked a 39-yard field goal and a pair of extra points, Fizel handled the kick-off duties and also made a tackle and fumble recovery on special teams.

CR South coach Vince Bedesem says:  “Ben missed one field goal that would have given us a little bit of breathing room early, but again, he had a short memory and came back when we really needed him. We called a timeout because we were in between – do we kick or don’t we kick. We brought Ben out. He actually kicked the ball off the carpet and put the ball through the uprights for a 39-yard field goal. It would have been good from 55. I’m saying to myself, (Alabama coach) Nick Saban would have loved to have that on Saturday night (in a 9-6 loss to LSU that saw Alabama miss four field goals). He bounced back from the previous one he missed. I said to him, ‘It’s not you, it’s not the snapper, and it’s not the holder. It’s all three of you, but like a quarterback, you have to take responsibility.’ He had a chance to make up for it, and he did it. We are very, very fortunate to have Ben.
“Austin just has been doing a great job. He actually took over the long snapping duties this year when Ryan Whiteley went down early in the season. When Ryan came back, we wanted to give him a break, and
Austin was doing a good job. People don’t really realize it, but Austin is a big, big body. He gets down the field and makes things happen. Fortunately for us, he went down and made a hit on a punt and ended up recovering the fumble. He actually made the tackle and made the recovery. He just did an outstanding job.  He’s been doing a great job with the kickoffs. It’s no secret we try and do different things on our kickoffs, and he’s an extra body to go down on coverage. It’s been a very, very good combination to us for the last seven or eight weeks."

CENTRAL BUCKS WEST at HATBORO-HORSHAM (CB West 23, Hatboro 12)
Sterling Limousine Offensive Players of the Game – Sherrod Higginbotham & Oskar Duva, Central Bucks West
Sherrod ran the ball 18 times for 152 yards and a touchdown and also had one reception of eight yards. Duva was the Bucks’ lineman of the game for his blocking at the tight end position that allowed the Bucks to establish a successful run game while also providing pass protection.
CB West coach Brian Hensel says:  “Sherrod is our most productive offensive weapon this year. He is within reach of a thousand-yard season and will be returning for his senior season in 2012.
“Oskar is a 48-minute player and never wants to leave the field. He has conditioned himself to be effective in all phases of the game. He returned a fumble 39 yards on Friday night to set up our winning score.”

Sterling Limousine Defensive Players of the Game – Jake Poeske & Dan Sergeyev, Central Bucks West
The duo combined for a total of 20 tackles, two sacks, three tackles for a loss, two forced fumbles and three quarterback hurries in one of the team’s best defensive performances of the season.
CB West coach Brian Hensel says:  “Jake is an ever-present leader for our team. He battled through a mid-season knee injury that required surgery; however, he has come back strong and is a key to the late-season success we have experienced.
“Dan has been a force at the defensive end position all season long. He has led our defensive line in tackles, tackles for a loss and quarterback hurries for the season. He is being recruited by Princeton, Harvard and Bucknell.”

Sterling Limousine Special Teams Players of the Game – Nick Danilo, Central Bucks West
West’s placekicker made all of his extra point attempts and was one-for-one on field goal attempts with a 37-yard field goal in the fourth quarter. He had more than 200 kick-off yards with one being tackled inside the Hatboro 20-yard line.
CB West coach Brian Hensel says:  “Nick has balanced being a starter on the CB West soccer team (which made the playoffs in 2011) while still being consistent with the kicking chores of the football team. His two best games have been in the past two weeks. We look forward to his return as a senior in 2012.”
