Sterling Limousine and Transportation Services of Wrightstown is proud to recognize the Players of the Game for SOL teams that are part of each week’s SuburbanOneSports.com’s Featured Games. During the postseason, Sterling Limo will recognize Players of the Game for each of the winning teams.
#15 PENNSBURY at #11 NORTH PENN (North Penn 27, Pennsbury 3
Sterling Limousine Offensive Player of the Game – Dan Gevirtz, North Penn
Gevirtz scored three touchdowns – the first on a nine-yard pass from QB Corey Ernst, the second on a 23-yard run and the third on a 63-yard punt return. For the game, Gevirtz caught four passes for 86 yards and gained 40 yards on three rushes.
North Penn coach Dick Beck says: “What didn’t he do Friday night? And he played very well defensively too. He caught two long passes – one was a little overthrown, and he had to make a great catch to catch it. He ran the reverse for a long run, and he actually did a nice job blocking. He’s been starting since he was a sophomore. Last year he was our third receiver, so he kind of got lost in the shuffle, but I think he might be a step faster this year. He’s very confident in all his routes – he’s an excellent route runner, and he’s very explosive.”
Sterling Limousine Defensive Player of the Game - Ralph Reeves, North Penn
The Knights’ senior linebacker had a monster game, delivering 13 tackles, which included three for a loss. He was cornerstone of a defense that allowed less than 200 yards of total offense.
North Penn coach Dick Beck says: “Out of all the games he’s played for us, this was probably his most productive when it comes to making a lot of tackles. I showed the film of the game to (a pair of) college recruiters, and they couldn’t believe how much he was around the ball. If he wasn’t making the tackle, he was the next guy standing over the guy who was making the tackle. He played most of the game on offense too. It was a good showing for him.”
Sterling Limousine Special Teams Player of the Game – Matt Smith, North Penn
Smith, who has been a force on special teams all season, had three tackles on special teams, and he also delivered the big block that sprung teammate Dan Gevirtz loose on his 63-yard punt return for a TD.
North Penn coach Dick Beck says: “On Gevirtz’s punt return, Matt Smith was the guy leading him up the sideline. He’s the one that made the block right before (Gevirtz) cut back across the grain. He also had three tackles on kickoffs, which are huge because we’ve struggled a little bit on our kickoff coverage, plus he’s playing the whole game defensively and probably getting 15 snaps a game offensively, so he’s definitely getting his work in.”
#5 GARNET VALLEY at #1 COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH (CR South 38, Downingtown East 24)
Sterling Limousine Offensive Players of the Game – Brian Donnelly & Anthony Alimenti, Council Rock South
On a night that saw the Golden Hawks accumulate close to 300 yards on the ground, Donnelly had 89 yards on 13 carries with one touchdown while Alimenti led Rock South with 137 yards on 18 carries with two touchdowns.
Council Rock South coach Vince Bedesem says: “Brian is gaining a maturity about himself week after week after week. It’s no secret what we do, but he stands in there, and there are times he takes punishment, but he just keeps coming after you play after play after play. As for Anthony, I know a lot of people have been talking about his past seven weeks, but Anthony Alimenti has been doing the job for us for 15-16 weeks or however many weeks the season has been. It hasn’t just been the second half of the season that he has rolled in and done the job for us. He has been doing the job for us the whole entire year. If anybody charted the number of plays he plays at two crucial positions – at halfback and outside linebacker, I think he probably plays over 100 plays a game for us, not to mention being on special teams. He’s an all-around thorough player for us in terms of what he means to this football team.”
Sterling Limousine Defensive Player of the Game – P.J. Gallo, Council Rock South
Whether on the defensive line or at linebacker, Gallo has been a dominant force on defense for the Golden Hawks and once again anchored a defensive unit that effectively contained a high-scoring Garnet Valley offense for the better part of Friday’s district semifinal win.
Council Rock South coach Vince Bedesem says: “Here’s a guy that already got his scholarship in hand to Maryland. He had 20 other offers besides Maryland. It looks like he’s going to be playing tight end in college, and here he is a preseason all-state defensive end. We do switch him to linebacker sometimes, and he’s just done nothing but gotten better every single week. He’s tough to block, he goes sideline to sideline, and he gives us another element in the passing game. He is just probably overall our most consistent player on a week-in, week-out basis.”
Sterling Limousine Special Teams Player of the Game – Ian McDermott, Council Rock South
McDermott has been a consistent performer on special teams all season, and he once again was a force on both the punt and kickoff coverage in Friday’s win over Garnet Valley.
Council Rock South coach Vince Bedesem says: “We take a great deal of pride in our special teams, and we’ll always spend a lot of time on that aspect. His kickoff coverage and his punt coverage are so vital for us. Out of five or six kickoffs that we had on Friday night, Ian had 60 percent of the hits.”
