Sterling Limousine and Transportation Services of Wrightstown is proud to recognize the Players of the Game for SOL teams that are part of each week’s SuburbanOneSports.com’s Featured Games.
WISSAHICKON at UPPER DUBLIN (Wissahickon 41, Upper Dublin 21)
Sterling Limousine Offensive Player of the Game – Randy Frankenfield, Wissahickon
The Trojans’ quarterback was 3-for-4 but made those completions count, throwing for a pair of touchdowns. He had TD passes of 30 and 64 yards.
Coach Jeff Cappa says: “Randy is a captain and starts at both quarterback and outside linebacker. He’s a multi-sport athlete – he also plays baseball. Randy stepped in as a first-year starting quarterback and has done a remarkable job. He’s a run and pass threat quarterback. Randy is a fierce competitor.”
Sterling Limousine Defensive Player of the Game –Gordon Bentley, Wissahickon
The Trojans’ free safety not only hauled in a 64-yard touchdown pass and ran a punt back 73 yards for a touchdown, he also stripped a UD running back of the ball and pitched it to teammate Khalil Byrd for a TD run.
Coach Jeff Cappa says: “Gordon is a captain of the team and starts at both free safety and wide receiver. He’s a multi-sport athlete and plays basketball in the winter. Gordon is a returning starter and is a threat to score a TD every time he touches the ball. He’s a tenacious defensive player and is all over the field.”
Sterling Limousine Special Teams Player of the Game – Neal Guaglianone, Wissahickon
The Trojans’ kicker had one touchback on his kickoffs and put five others inside the 10-yard line..
Coach Jeff Kappa says: “Neal is a first-time kicker for the team. He also plays soccer. He has a strong leg and is a great team player.”
COUNCIL ROCK NORTH at ABINGTON (Abington 19, Council Rock North 17)
Sterling Limousine Offensive Player of the Game – Kendall Stewart, Abington
The Ghosts’ senior side receiver had a pair of catches for 29 yards to lead the Ghosts. Included in those four catches was a 19-yard TD reception.
Coach Tim Sorber says: “The one catch Kendall made on the sidelines - he made a couple moves and made three people miss, and that was kind of a momentum changer for us. We were struggling a little bit offensively with some penalties and stuff like that, and him making a big play at the opportune time foretold the victory.”
Sterling Limousine Defensive Player of the Game – Dustyn Collins, Abington
The senior outside linebacker had four unassisted tackles and one sack to lead the Ghosts’ defense.
Coach Tim Sorber says: “Dustyn Collins has really played very steady the whole year. He’s playing a new position this year (after playing defensive end last year), and he’s playing extremely well. More importantly, he’s communicating with other defensive players, getting people lined up well, and we’re going to need that effort again against a much-improved Bensalem football team.”
Sterling Limousine Special Teams Player of the Game – Gage Gormley, Abington
The Ghosts’ senior punter, who also is a wide receiver, averaged 37.5 yards on six punts. He caught a seven-yard touchdown pass that put the Ghosts on the scoreboard early in Friday night’s win. He finished the night with three catches for 18 yards.
Coach Tim Sorber says: “Gage punted six times and averaged over 35 yards, but more importantly was the one big kick he got off – he was kicking from his own three-yard line, and he was able to get it to their 45. He has done a great job. He has three kicks where he’s punted it inside the 10-yard line, so he’s come up big with that.”
UPPER MERION at NORRISTOWN (Norristown 27, Upper Merion 20)
Sterling Limousine Offensive Player of the Game – Darius Wills, Norristown
The Eagles’ running back had only four carries, but he accumulated 75 yards and had touchdown runs of nine and 60 yards. He also had a pair of catches for 48 yards.
Coach E.J. Smith says: “He did a great job. He scored our first touchdown and had a big screen play where he took it inside the 10 and then ran it in for the score. He’s a senior and a returning letter winner, an all-area linebacker. He plays well on defense, but he’s doing a great job on offense as well.”
Sterling Limousine Defensive Player of the Game – Rasheed Lusane, Norristown
The senior nose tackle was a key contributor on an Eagles’ defense that put the clamps on the Vikings in the second half.
Coach E.J. Smith says: “In the second half, he really picked his game up and had at least two or three tackles for losses. He’s doing a good job for us, and we’re expecting big things from him.”
Sterling Limousine Special Teams Co-Players of the Game – Tom Detwiler, Norristown, & Sean Calhoun, Norristown
Detwiler, the Eagles’ freshman placekicker, connected on three PATs. Calhoun, the Eagles’ punter, repeatedly pinned the Vikings deep in their own territory.
Coach E.J. Smith says: “Both Sean and Tom are playing for their high school’s soccer team. Sean is coming back from concussion symptoms that have kept him off the field. He is a tremendous athlete, who also plays soccer and lacrosse, and he’s an extremely hard worker. Tom has been with us from day one and is improving every day. The two of them, along with Shane Hammer, have been coming to our practices after a full soccer practice and kick on their own. It is a great testament to the dedication that these young men possess.
“Sean did an exceptional job punting Saturday, giving Upper Merion a long field to work with, pinning them inside the 20-yard line and even drawing a flag. Tom had ice in his veins all day, kicking three extra points, none more important than the one to tie the game at 20 with only a few minutes left to play in the game.”
