STERLING LIMOUSINE AND TRANSPORTATION
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Sterling Limo Offensive Players of the Game:
First star: Javeer Peterson & Sayyid Saunders, Harry S Truman – Peterson ran for 253 yards and two touchdowns and Saunders had 223 rushing yards and three touchdowns. The duo combined for 476 yards and five touchdowns in Harry S Truman’s 49-21 win over Bensalem that clinched the program’s first ever postseason berth in the District One 6A Tournament.
Coach Mike LaPalombara says: “Incorporating Javeer as a main part of our running game has made a big difference in our overall offensive production.
“Sayyid continues to be a big impact player for our offense.”
Second star: Brody McAndrew, Neshaminy – The sophomore quarterback completed 13-of-18 passes for 154 yards and one touchdown in Neshaminy’s 21-20 win over Pennsbury. McAndrew engineered the game-winning drive in the game’s closing minutes, completing a huge third down pass to Oleh Manzyk, who took it to the two-yard line. The sophomore QB caught the TD pass on fourth-and-goal that propelled the Redskins to the win.
Second star: Josh Smith, Hatboro-Horsham – The senior running back had 224 yards and one touchdown on 17 carries in Hatboro-Horsham’s 45-20 win over Cheltenham.
Third star: Michael Welde, Council Rock North – The senior running back turned in yet another strong outing with 168 yards on the ground on 24 carries in Council Rock North’s 38-14 loss to Council Rock South.
Sterling Limo Defensive Players of the Game:
First star: Oleh Manzyk, Neshaminy – The junior linebacker had six solo tackles, two for a loss, and two forced fumbles in Neshaminy’s 21-20 win over Pennsbury. Manzyk – who came up with a critical third-down reception on the game-winning drive - also played a key role in containing Falcon quarterback Zach Demarchis.
Coach Steve Wilmot says: “Coming into the season, we had high expectations for Oleh. He’s a natural outside linebacker, and for most of the year last year, he played outside linebacker. Toward the end of the year, he moved inside out of necessity for us. This year, looking at the players we had coming back, we decided to move Oleh fulltime to inside linebacker. It took him a couple of games to make that adjustment from outside to inside, but over the last 10 weeks, he’s just grown so much as a player and as a leader on our team too. He really leads that defense. He makes the calls to get everyone lined up, and he’s just been playing at a very high level the last few weeks.
“There’s a longstanding story we have here at Neshaminy – Oleh came to our football camp as an eighth grader, as a youth, and he ran this 40 time that was unbelievable. We saw how he played, and we invited him to play up with the varsity as a ninth grader. In his very first varsity game against Montclair, we just threw him in at defensive end, and he ends up getting a key sack for us in the fourth quarter. Oleh is just a tremendous athlete, and his speed did negate some of Zach’s running a little bit. He still definitely had his runs, but Oleh was there most of the time to catch him.”
First star: Ryan Rapp, Kyle Schetter, Joe Devine and Cooper Chaikin, Pennridge – For the second time in as many games, the Rams had four players combine for five interceptions in Pennridge’s 28-12 win over Central Bucks East. Rapp had a pick six in the first half that he returned for 62 yards, propelling the Rams to a 7-6 lead at halftime. Cooper Chaikin, a sophomore, had a pair of interceptions for the second week in a row.
Coach Jeff Hollenbach says: "Ryan's 62-yard pick six is certainly a Defensive End's 'dream come true.' Ryan is having an excellent year on both sides of the ball, so this was, in my mind, a nice reward for a great season. Cooper Chaikin now has four picks in the only two games he's played, so he is making an immediate impact on our secondary. Joe and Kyle have played terrific football on both sides of the ball all season."
Second star: Cole Kitchen, Upper Moreland – The Golden Bears’ senior had a pair of interceptions and led the defense in Upper Moreland’s 21-20 win over Upper Dublin that clinched the SOL American Conference title. His interception of UD’s two-point conversion attempt with time about to expire preserved the win for the Golden Bears.
Second star: Andrew Vince, Souderton – The Indians’ sophomore contributed on both sides of the football in Souderton’s 21-14 upset of Central Bucks West. Vince had four tackles and a pair of interceptions, closing the season as the Indians’ leader in both categories. He also lined up behind center and threw for over 100 yards and a touchdown.
Sterling Limo Special Teams Players of the Game:
First star: Joel Stills, Neshaminy – The senior running back returned a kickoff 92 yards for a touchdown that was the game changer in Neshaminy’s 21-20 come-from-behind win over Pennsbury. The touchdown came after the Falcons scored to go on top 20-7 early in the fourth quarter.
Coach Steve Wilmot says: “Joel enjoys our kickoff returns a lot. He’s been on the touchdown end of things a few times. He’s got some guys out there blocking really hard for him, but a lot of credit does go to Joel. Yes, the blocking is there, but there are few athletes in the area that could have made the run that he did. He’s just got such tremendous speed. He saw an opening, and he just turned on the jets and went the distance to really put our team back in the game and answer the Pennsbury score.”
Second star: Kevin Buckland, Harry S Truman – The senior kicker made all seven of his extra points in Harry S Truman’s 49-21 win over Bensalem. The return of long snapper Joey Goldey after an injury has been key to Buckland’s success.
Second star: Jin Kim, Hatboro-Horsham – The Hatters’ placekicker was a perfect 6-for-6 in extra points and also connected on his only field goal attempt from 28 yards in Hatboro-Horsham’s 45-20 win over Cheltenham.
SOL Honor Roll:
Sterlen Barr, Upper Moreland – The senior running back had 107 yards in Upper Moreland’s 21-20 win over Upper Dublin.
KJ Cartwright, North Penn – The senior running back had four touchdowns in North Penn’s 46-8 non-league win over Abington.
Kyle Exner, Pennridge – The Rams’ running back had 143 yards on 11 carries in Pennridge’s 28-12 win over Central Bucks East.
Nick Gallo, Council Rock South – The junior tight end caught six passes for 142 yards and two touchdowns in Council Rock South’s 38-14 win over Council Rock North.
Christian Jabbar, Council Rock South – The senior quarterback threw for 187 yards and three touchdowns in Council Rock South’s 38-14 win over Council Rock North.
Jack Johns, Central Bucks South – The senior quarterback turned wide receiver caught six passes for 111 yards and three touchdowns in Central Bucks South’s 37-17 win over William Tennent.
Offensive Line, Harry S Truman – The Tigers’ offensive linemen were the unsung heroes in Harry S Truman’s 49-21 win over Bensalem, delivering blocks for the Tigers’ runners who combined for 560 yards on the ground.
Christian Patrick, Quakertown – The Panthers’ running back had 104 yards in Quakertown’s 42-23 comeback win over Plymouth Whitemarsh.
Ryan Shoch, Central Bucks South – The senior quarterback completed 7-of-10 passes for 159 yards and three touchdowns in Central Bucks South’s 37-17 win over William Tennent.
Michael Terra, Quakertown – The Panthers’ running back led a heroic second-half comeback with 146 rushing yards and three touchdowns in Quakertown’s 42-23 win over Plymouth Whitemarsh that saw the Panthers outscore the Colonials 42-3 in the second half.
