Sterling Limousine Players of the Game 11-26-10

Sterling Limousine and Transportation Services of Newtown is proud to recognize the Players of the Game for the teams that were winners in Friday night’s semifinal round of the District One Class AAAA playoffs.

Neshaminy 33, Bayard Rustin 7
Sterling Limousine Offensive Player of the Game – Anthony Woodroffe, Neshaminy
Woodroffe had another big night out of the backfield for the Redskins, rushing for 163 yards on 15 carries. Included in those carries was a 55-yard touchdown run.

Coach Mark Schmidt says: “He runs hard. Coming into the season – he didn’t play last year, and it took him a little while to get going. He had a couple of good runs in our first game of the season against Souderton, but as the season has gone on, he has really improved. It seems like he’s having a lot of fun and getting used to what we’re doing. Things are working out pretty well.”

Sterling Limousine Defensive Player of the Game – Tyler Masterson, Neshaminy
The senior outside linebacker led the defense with five solo tackles and one sack in a contest that saw Rustin accumulate less than 200 yards of total offense.

Coach Mark Schmidt says: “Tyler really was in the doghouse for the last four or five weeks. He had a little bit of a sore shoulder, and he just wasn’t playing that well. Give him credit – he’s done a good job. I’m real proud of him. This past week when we needed him to step up his game against their wing package, he did a really good job. He was playing really well in the middle of the year, but then he slacked off, so we’re happy to have him pick up the slack a little bit.”

Sterling Limousine Special Teams Player of the Game – Cole Creighton, Neshaminy
Creighton, a freshman, had a 40-yard punt return to flip the field for the Redskins.

Coach Mark Schmidt says: “Cole is a good athlete. He’s only a ninth grader, but he doesn’t act like it. He has a real good personality. He’s an excellent baseball player, so he’s used to being out there. He wants to be out there and be a part of this. We kind of got on him after his first return – we felt he could have done a little more with it, and the second one, he really made something happen and turned the field over for us and allowed us to get ahead and stay ahead.”

North Penn 28, Council Rock South 14

Sterling Limousine Offensive Player of the Game – Gerard Wendowski, North Penn
The senior wide receiver hauled in seven passes for 82 yards. He caught a three-yard touchdown pass that sent the Knights into halftime with a 14-0 lead. Several of his catches came on third-and-long, giving the Knights key first downs.

Coach Dick Beck says: “Gerard had the game of his life. The only thing that holds back Gerard is me – we don’t throw the ball 30 times a game. We have a lot of receivers, but Friday night was his night, and everybody got to see what he could do.

“As we were watching the film – the key to each of his routes was the depth. If it’s too deep, it develops too (slow), and if it’s too shallow, the linebackers can make the play. He runs very precise patterns, and when you have (Dom) Taggart underneath and Wendowski over the top, who do you react to? That’s a good option for us.

Sterling Limousine Defensive Player of the Game – Marcus McGraw, North Penn
The senior linebacker led the Knights’ defense in a contest that saw North Penn keep a dangerous Golden Hawk offense that was averaging 32.4 points a game off the scoreboard until late in the third quarter.

Coach Dick Beck says: “Marcus has been going back and forth – offensive line to defensive line. We took him off the offensive line and let him play fulltime on defense. He was making a lot of penetration, coming through and getting a good pass rush. I just thought he had a heck of a game.”

Sterling Limousine Special Teams Players of the Game – Tim Conboy, North Penn
The senior punter had to punt just twice but averaged 42 yards on those two kicks, which included a punt that buried Rock South inside its own five in the fourth quarter.

Coach Dick Beck says: “On his punt in the fourth quarter, you’re thinking they have the punt block on, so you better rush it a little bit, and he gets it off and really does a nice job and gets it buried.

“At the beginning of the season, we didn’t even know he punted. We were trying out punters before our first game because we struggled in our scrimmages, and someone whispered in my ear that Conboy punts. The one thing about him is he’s a backup receiver, so he’s athletic, he can catch the ball and get the kick off, and that’s what we were looking for.”
