Sterling Limousine Players of the Game (Second Round)

Sterling Limousine and Transportation Services of Newtown is proud to recognize the Players of the Game for the SOL teams that were winners in Friday night’s second  round of the District One Class AAAA playoffs.

Council Rock South vs. Central Bucks West  (CB South 51, CB West 42)
Sterling Limousine Offensive Player of the Game – Mark Damirgian, Council Rock South
The Golden Hawks’ senior running back rushed for 237 yards on 24 carries, which included touchdown runs of 59 and four yards.

Coach Vince Bedesem says: “His performance was really big, especially at times where we needed a first down or needed a little bit of a spark. He provided that for us. He has been doing that all year. He’s a great leader on the field – he leads by example, and he’s a very, very hard-working kid, and he’s just great to be around. The kids gravitate to him. He’s quiet and unassuming, but he shows such a great work ethic that kind of epitomizes the team itself.

“He’s efficient with his running, and he has good field vision. Is he a power runner? Yes, absolutely, but he has deceptive speed. He has what you would call football speed. He’s a guy that is able to outwork you and outrun you when he has the ball in his hands and he’s in full pads.”

Sterling Limousine Defensive Player of the Game – Matt Emilius, Council Rock South
The senior lineman has helped anchor the Golden Hawks’ defense all season, and Emilius played a key role in containing CB West running back Rashaad Williams, who had 120 yards but just 33 in the second half.

Coach Vince Bedesem says: “He has been a consistent player all year. He did a good job on Friday night even though we did give up 42 points. He anchors the defensive line as far as that side of the ball, and he’s just done an outstanding job for us. He’s so steady in his play, and he comes up and makes those great plays when we need them.”

Sterling Limousine Special Teams Player of the Game – Ben Solis, Council Rock South
The Golden Hawks’ junior placekicker was good on all seven extra-point attempts in Friday’s win. He also booted a 29-yard field goal to give Rock South a 17-point advantage in the fourth quarter, all but sealing in the Bucks’ fate.

Coach Vince Bedesem says: “Ben came up big with that field goal. That field goal changed the mentality of the game. Now it’s a three-score game. He has been a very effective weapon for us, and that field goal would have been good from 52 or 53 yards out. He really has a nice way of kicking those extra points and field goals, and he can really channel a lot of energy into that ball.”

Neshaminy vs. Abington (Neshaminy 35, Abington 21)

Sterling Limousine Offensive Player of the Game - Anthony Woodroffe, Neshaminy
The senior running back rushed for 108 yards on 10 carries and had touchdown runs of 30 and six yards.

Coach Mark Schmidt says: “Woodroffe did a really nice job – he made two really nice runs. He didn’t play last year, and the whole thing with him is he’s definitely one of those guys that needs repetition. Not playing last year – he’s basically getting his experience on the field. He’s starting to hit his stride. He’s starting to see the field a little bit better and see the holes. He’s a hard runner, and he is very determined, and he does a super job that way. He’s also doing a really nice job of catching the ball on our pass routes. Charlie Marterella is finding him in some key plays for us, and he’s very instrumental.”

Sterling Limousine Defensive Player of the Game – Kiser Terry, Neshaminy
The junior defensive end once again led the way for the Redskins defensively. Terry had nine total tackles, which included two tackles for a loss. He was credited with two quarterback pressures, one pass breakup and one caused fumble.

Coach Mark Schmidt says: “I’m really proud of him. He’s doing a great job, and the thing about him – being a junior, he played a little bit last year but was more or less the guy we put in on third down and said, ‘Go get the quarterback.’ Now he’s got to read the blocks and play the schemes – people are really trying to double team him sometimes because of his ability off the edge to beat those blocks, but he’s containing (Brandon) Pepper and then going and containing Julien Ireland on the edge. People trying to take that side have not been very productive.”

Sterling Limousine Special Teams Player of the Game – Bryan Reice, Neshaminy
The junior punter had nine punts for 191 yards or an average of 38.2 yards per punt. Reice not only delivered a 57-yard punt but twice pinned Abington inside its own 20-yard line.
Coach Mark Schmidt says: “I thought about going for it on fourth down on our last drive, but Bryan was punting so well and our coverage was doing so well – we didn’t want to give them such a short field, so we figured we would try and knock it down there. He did such a nice job – hit it high, and our guys covered it, and we flipped the field on them.
“Bryan has a heck of a leg. He actually is just getting back into it. He was getting a little bit too mechanical, and we said to him, ‘Just kick it.’ The last two weeks he has been kicking those nice high, long ones, and he’s basically outkicking the other team’s receiving unit. When you’re punting on a grass field, you don’t get those rolls those guys get on turf, and that hurts Bryan statistically, but he’s certainly very valuable to us.”

North Penn vs. Downingtown East (North Penn 49, Downingtown East 33)

Sterling Limousine Offensive Player of the Game – Craig Needhammer, North Penn
The senior running back once again delivered a monster performance out of the Knights’ backfield. Needhammer had 18 carries for 200 yards, which included touchdown runs of 70 and 24 yards.

Coach Dick Beck Says: “We have a lot of weapons, and when you go into a long season and are thinking you can go deep in the playoffs, you don’t want to give a kid the ball 250 times because you have more likelihood of getting hurt. Plus, Needhammer has been playing more defense than he ever has this year. We’re in the playoffs, and we’ve got to be successful. We’re going to do what we have to do, and that’s why he’s gotten more touches.

“Everybody knows about him running the ball, but what they don’t see is his blocking. It’s some of the best, especially for an undersized guy like him. He likes to put his nose in there, and he does a great job of helping Dom Taggart get in the open, and I think that’s huge for us. It’s the stuff you don’t see. I’m sure a lot of his runs he’d say it was the line blocking, but what he does when he doesn’t have the ball is what makes him special.

Sterling Limousine Defensive Player of the Game – Ralph Reeves, North Penn
The  junior linebacker had seven solo tackles to lead the Knights’ defense - two of those tackles were for losses.  Reeves also caused two fumbles.

Coach Dick Beck says: “He really came with his ‘A’ game on Friday. He’s the one that solidifies us in the middle. We can take some chances on the edge because we have him in the middle.”

Sterling Limousine Special Teams Player of the Game – James Fielder, North Penn
Fielder had three tackles on kickoffs in North Penn’s big win over Downingtown.

Coach Dick Beck says: “He really got down there on the kickoffs and made some plays. We give out an award every week, and I bet he’s won the special teams award four times this year. He’s very fast, but his effort is number one. He gets down the field and is making tackles. He leads our team in special teams tackles.”
