Sterling Limousine and Transportation Services is proud to recognize the Players of the Game for Friday night’s SOL Game of the Week between Cheltenham and Upper Moreland. Upper Moreland sophomore Robert Knox was named the Offensive Player of the Game while Cheltenham senior Dan Rouse was named the Defensive Player of the Game. Cheltenham won the game 21-14.
STERLING LIMOUSINE OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE GAME
Knox lined up at both tight end and wide receiver over the course of Friday’s game and caught three passes for 127 yards – two of them for touchdowns. His first – for 69 yards – came in the second quarter to make it a 14-7 game at halftime. Knox’s second TD catch of 21 yards made it a 14-14 game in the fourth quarter. On defense, Knox came up with a pair of interceptions.
Coach Adam Beach says: “Going into the game he wasn’t really the guy we were trying to get the ball to, but it just happened with the way they lined up that they were giving us some stuff to his side. He went up and made the catch over the kid’s head. He was having a great night, so we tried to give him the ball a little bit more. We had him at tight end for a play, and he caught a touchdown there. It was a breakout game for him.
“We knew he had the potential. His older brother Tommy Knox was a good player for us, and we knew he had it in him. It was great he had his coming out party in a big game like that. It’s always nice to see kids play big in big games because that’s how you know who your real players are. He’s identified by our staff as a guy we’ve got to get the ball to.”
STERLING LIMOUSINE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE GAME
The Panthers’ senior outside linebacker returned an interception 65 yards for a touchdown to send the Panthers into halftime with a 14-7 lead. He also drew plenty of attention on the offensive side of the football, regularly drawing double coverage which opened things up for his teammates.
Coach Joe Gro says: “He’s a very opportunistic football player, and he does some really nice things. Our outside linebackers do a lot of coverage things, and we try to put them in a lot more difficult situations than most people’s kids. He played D-back up until this year, so he’s a pretty good coverage guy.
“The interception was a very heady play, but then to be able to run it back 65 yards – it wasn’t on an open field. He had to take several cuts and make people miss. That’s the special part. The interception was wonderful. We had it defensed, but they don’t just do one thing in there. They do multiple things. Dan gets a read and jumps the pattern, which is great, but to run it back 65 yards is beyond great.
“The week before in our game against Norristown, they were double covering Dan the whole time, so he ran a punt back for 80 yards. We’re not getting him the ball as much as we had been, but to be honest, by doing what they’re doing to Dan, they’re giving us other options.”
