OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Khalani Eaton, North Penn – The numbers – 27 carries for 238 yards and three touchdowns – might seem almost routine for the standout senior running back, but in the oppressive heat that saw players dropping for both sides, Eaton was still going strong late in the game, carrying the Knights’ running game on his shoulders in a 42-27 win over defending District One 6A champion Souderton.

Coach Dick Beck says:  “We don’t hope to give him the ball 27 times a game, but the circumstances - our two back-up running backs were injured and our starting fullback was injured, so we would have had to put in a fourth string guy. We’re not giving out a lot of carries to other guys because everybody is injured. Khalani doesn’t play defense, so the thought was – ‘Let’s let him run the ball, and he can stay fresh because he’s not doing anything on defense,’ so it worked out. Ultimately, we like to spread the ball around a little bit. I like that number to be between 15 and 20 – 27 is a little too much, but he seemed so strong as the game went on. It was definitely a very tough night to play. I was happy with our kids at the end. In the fourth quarter, we were still playing hard. We didn’t have any cramping. The kids did a nice job preparing themselves.”

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Danny Moynihan, Abington – The Abington senior contributed on both sides of the football in Abington’s 19-7 win over Cheltenham. A tight end on offense, Moynihan had three receptions for 34 yards and a touchdown and also had a big night blocking in a contest that saw the Ghosts pile up 253 yards on the ground. The senior defensive end had two sacks and three tackles for a loss as well as five assisted tackles for a line that dominated play, allowing just eight net yards on the ground and 155 yards of total offense in the game.

Coach Kevin Conlin says:  “Danny shined the brightest when our team needed him the most. That showed what kind of a leader he is and always will be for our program.”

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Sawyer Koza, Council Rock North – The Indians’ senior kicker connected on a 25-yard field goal and three point-afters in Council Rock North’s 35-0 win over New Hope-Solebury. He also punted four times for an average of 46.5 yards with two of his punts downed inside the five-yard line. For good measure, he had a tackle on a kick-off return that saved a touchdown and preserved the shutout.

Coach John Greiner says:  “Sawyer has done a tremendous job for the Council Rock North special teams unit, taking the utmost instruction from his coaches - Coach Joe Brown and Coach Zach Schram - over that stretch to improve his craft. And Sawyer also soaked up instruction from special guest Tyler Newsome, a four-year starter at Notre Dame University and senior captain who currently is attempting tryouts with teams in the NFL.”
