Sterling Limousine Players of the Week (NP vs. Souderton)

Sterling Limousine and Transportation Services of Wrightstown is proud to recognize the Players of the Game for last Friday night’s SOL Game of the Week between North Penn and Souderton. North Penn senior Dominic Taggart was named the Offensive Player of the Game while North Penn senior Matt Donovan was named the Defensive Player of the Game. North Penn rallied from a 16-0 deficit to earn a 40-22 win.

STERLING LIMOUSINE OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE GAME

Dominic Taggart – North Penn
Taggart had a career night for North Penn, scoring five touchdowns while also coming up with an interception. He accounted for 249 total yards of offense – more than Souderton’s entire team. He rushed for 84 yards and three touchdowns and hauled in eight passes for 165 yards and two touchdowns.

Coach Dick Beck says: “I would compare him to a kid we had in the early 2000s – Phil DiGiacomo – who went on to play at Villanova. He’s an all-purpose kid. He’s played tight end, running back and fullback. Last year, he played linebacker, defensive end and safety. He does everything for us. Friday night was the first game he went both ways the whole game.

“Early in the year, he turned his ankle against Hazleton in the first scrimmage, and he was slowed the first three or four weeks. On Friday, we had a game against Souderton that was going to determine the league champion, and we said we were going to play him until he couldn’t go. He played the entire game, didn’t come out. He had five tackles and an interception, and offensively, what can you say?

“He not only can do something when the ball is in his hands, he’s tremendous blocker also. That’s what we’re trying to get our kids to do. We don’t want one-dimensional kids. We want kids who can do everything, and he can do it all.”

STERLING LIMOUSINE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE GAME

Matt Donovan – North Penn
Donovan has been a mainstay on the Knights’ offensive line at guard all season, and in Friday’s big win over Souderton, he also started at linebacker for the first time this season.  When Ryan Hessenius dislocated his shoulder in the first quarter, Donovan had to make all the defensive calls for a defense that allowed Souderton to accumulate just 189 total yards of offense.

Coach Dick Beck says: “Matt’s biggest contribution on defense is his leadership. Last year he started at linebacker almost every game. This year since he started on the offensive line and we had (Ryan) Hessenius back healthy, he hasn’t been playing much defense. We had a few injuries, and we shifted him around and moved him in at starting linebacker. When Hessenius got hurt, Matt Donovan has to make all the calls, and we don’t miss a beat.  He did a great job, and now he’s probably going to be the starter at linebacker, and he’s obviously been starting all year on the offensive line.

“Every year we vote for one captain at the end of camp. He was almost a unanimous choice. He’s been starting as our long snapper on our punts since his sophomore year. He’s exactly the kind of kid you’re looking for. We call him a program kid. He’s a guy we hope defines our program.”
