Dan Denton – Council Rock North
Rock North’s senior leftfielder had himself a career day on Saturday. Denton, who bats clean-up, was a perfect 4-for-4 and reached base on all five trips to the plate. His big blow – a three-run home run over the left field fence in the second inning – gave the Indians a lead they would not lose. He also had a pair of doubles and a single and reached base on a walk. He finished the day with six RBIs. It was his second 4-for-4 effort in as many games.

Coach Matt Schram says: “After the last two games, he’s 8-for-8. What’s happened with him – in the beginning of the year, he wasn’t seeing a lot of fastballs. He wasn’t seeing a lot of pitches over the plate, and he was chasing a lot of pitches. Now he has a lot more patience up there, and with that patience, he now hits their mistakes.  They threw a 3-1 fastball to him in the second inning – it was clearly a mistake, and he hit it. We gave him the light 3-0 because he’s hot. I’m not going to stop him, plus he doesn’t see many pitches down the middle, so he might get one at 3-0. I don’t mind giving him the green light.”

Darren Lauer – Council Rock North
Rock North’s senior mound ace entered the game in the second inning after the Golden Hawks had capitalized on four hits and three walks to plate four first-inning runs. The Golden Hawks did not score the rest of the way as Lauer threw six scoreless innings, allowing seven hits, striking out six and walking none to earn the big win.

Coach Matt Schram says: “Darren has been lights out the last couple of games he’s thrown. He has been hitting his spots, starting on top, and he has been right around the plate. When he starts off on top in the count, he’s real tough.”

Billy Fleming – Council Rock South
Rock South’s senior lead-off batter finished the day 2-for-4 with a run scored. He got the ball rolling in the first inning when he lined a lead-off single to left field. By the time the inning was over, the Golden Hawks had a 4-1 lead. Fleming also anchors the Golden Hawks’ infield at shortstop.

Coach Greg Young says: “He’s the best player in the league – that’s my feeling. I know it’s a biased opinion, but he’s the best player in the league. The way he swings the bat is unmatched, and he’s had a tremendous year for us at the top of the lineup. People think that I’m crazy hitting him one and not three, but when he bats first, he gets more at-bats, and that’s how I want it.”
