Univest Featured Athletes (2-24-10)

SuburbanOneSports.com will once again be recognizing a male and featured athlete each week. The awards, sponsored by Univest, will be given to seniors of good character who are students in good standing that have made significant contributions to their teams. Selections are based on nominations received from coaches, athletic directors and administrators.

Casey O’Neill is a member of North Penn’s swimming team. Her competitiveness and outstanding work ethic make her a role model on the Continental Conference championship squad. O’Neill is a versatile swimmer who steps in where needed. “She’ll battle through anything, whether it’s studying in school, illnesses, injuries, just being sore and beat up,” coach Matt Weiser said. “She’s the kind of person who doesn’t get a whole lot of attention, but (she) steps up in a really big way for the team.”

Nick Joerger is a captain and key member of Central Bucks South’s basketball squad. At 6-3, Joerger often gives up inches to his opponents under the basket, but the senior forward has more than held his own for a Titan squad that is in the hunt for a state playoff berth. His play on the court is defined by his hustle and determination.  “He plays bigger than what he is,” coach Jason Campbell said. “We need him on the floor as much as possible because he makes a difference. He’s a smart player, and he knows how to play with the limited size that he has. He’s also another coach out on the floor.”
