Maddy Humphrey is, according to her coach, a program type kid. The North Penn senior isn’t a star athlete. As a matter of fact, Humphrey wasn’t a fulltime varsity player until her senior season. “Very rarely do you see kids that don’t start or get playing time sticking with it – they’re calling it quits after their junior year because they want to focus on something else,” coach Jami Wilus said. “Whether she’s been a jayvee player or a varsity sub or varsity starter, she was always about the team, and she wanted to be a part of what was going on in our program.”
Humphrey – who has a passion for lacrosse - was a starter on low attack for a Maiden squad that captured the National Conference title. “I remember when she was a sophomore she always just worked really hard and was always there and got along with everybody on the team,” Wilus said. “I think it shows how far she’s come and what she’s done with what she’s been given – the opportunity to start and be a part of our program.”
An excellent student, Humphrey has taken all honors classes and is ranked fifth in her senior class of over a thousand students unweighted and 39th out of that number weighted. “I think when a lot of people think of North Penn, they automatically assume we have these powerhouse kids every single year, and everyone is all about lacrosse,” Wilus said. “Maddy is such a great balance of academics and athletics. It’s more about developing a complete person, not just one who excels in one area or the other.”
Humphrey, who also finds time to do community service, plans to continue her lacrosse career next year at Lebanon Valley College. She plans to major in physical therapy with an interest in pursuing a career in pediatrics or sports medicine.

Univest’s SuburbanOneSports.com Featured Male Athlete (Week of May 16, 2011)
Nick Olindo admits that running is not his favorite thing, yet he logs 600-700 miles a year. The Pennridge senior has been a major contributor to both the cross country and track teams. Olindo has been to districts four years in track, the first two as a member of the 4x800 relay and the last two as part of the relay as well as the open 800. His favorite event is the relay. “It’s more of a team concept,” he said. “There’s a lot more pressure because there are three guys relying on you, but there’s more reward. I like winning as a team as opposed to by myself.” Last winter, his 4x800 relay placed fifth in the state.
Olindo has been a captain of the cross country team the past two years and a captain of winter track this year. “He’s a good leader by example,” coach Bob Hosier said. “He’s not very vocal, but he works extremely hard. He’s done everything from the 800 to the 3200, depending on where we needed him. It takes a lot of discipline. He has a lot of miles under those legs.”
A member of the fellowship of Christian Athletes, Olinda – despite competing in three sports – carries a 4.29 GPA and is ranked 20th out of his senior class of 500. He is also a member of the Ambassador’s Program, which welcomes new students to the school and gives them tours.
Olindo will attend Richmond University next year. He is considering a major in business, and although running is not in the picture right now, he has not ruled it out completely.
