Univest’s SuburbanOneSports.com Featured Female Athlete (Week of Sept. 28, 2011)
Allie Reid is a student-athlete who really might have found a way to do it all and do it all extremely well. The William Tennent senior is co-captain of her young field hockey squad and anchors the team at center midfield. “The best asset she has is her positivity, and her work ethic is second to none,” coach Kaitlyn Rauchut said. “We have a very young team, but as our center mid, she really knows how to make her presence felt on the field – not by being a loud player but by her technique, her control, her poise and most of all not giving up. The girls voted, and they chose her as a captain. I think that speaks of the person she is. I truly believe just being around her you become a better person and have a better outlook on life.”
Field hockey is just a small piece of Reid’s life. She is an editor of the yearbook, a member of Key Club and is involved in student government. A member of Tennent’s athletic council, Reid is the co-captain of the school’s Black and White Night, a three-day school-wide competition. She still finds time to excel in the classroom where she boasts and weighted GPA of 5.4 (unweighted 4.0). She is ranked seventh out of a senior class of 186.
Reid has a strong commitment to service, a commitment that was nurtured through annual service trips with her church. “It’s actually inspired me and made me want to major in international politics and relations with a minor in peace and conflict resolution studies so I can help communities like the communities I have worked in or to help their everyday circumstances,” Reid said. “The trips have definitely shaped where I am today and what I want to do with my life.” She hopes to join the Peace Corps and travel to Africa with her sights set on working with the United Nations. Reid has 10 schools on her potential college list. She recently visited Georgetown and George Washington, and she is also looking at schools like Princeton and Bucknell.

Univest’s SuburbanOneSports.com Featured Male Athlete (Week of Sept. 28, 2011)
Miguel Diaz might not score a ton of goals, but the Central Bucks East senior manages to put the ball in the net or passes it to the person that does when it counts the most. “It’s not the quantity of goals he’s had or assists for that matter, it’s been the importance of them,” coach Mike Gorni said. Diaz, a captain, was plagued by a preseason injury but has been coming on strong in recent weeks for the defending state runner-up Patriots. “He’s not going to catch anybody by surprise,” Gorni said. “He’s on everybody’s game plan for this year.” With good reason. Diaz has scored a total of eight goals in the playoffs the last two years.
At the age of 12, Diaz, a native of Puerto Rico, moved with his family to Madrid. He played for a club in Spain called Pozuell for two and a half years. “That’s where I fell in love with soccer and understood how to play,” Diaz said. “That’s where all my skill came from. It was tough for me at the beginning. Soccer is a religion over there. I wasn’t up to that level.” He returned to the United States a better soccer player and fluent in Spanish. He continues to play club soccer as a member of the German Academy Kickers (NJ).
Diaz, who boasts a 3.5 GPA and is taking honors classes, plans to major in business administration/marketing. He also plans to continue his soccer career at the collegiate level. Topping his list of colleges are James Madison and Temple.
