Jen Slivka is a two-year captain for both her soccer and basketball teams. The Neshaminy senior is a four-year starter in both sports, and although she might not be a headline player, Slivka is the kind of player coaches covet. On the basketball court, the senior captain makes contributions that don’t always show up in the boxscore. At 5-6, she is her team’s top rebounder. “The unfortunate part is that with people in our positions, most of us pray for the superstar stud kids you get once every five years,” basketball coach Joanne McVey said. “I’ll take a kid like Jen Slivka every day of the week. She’s a natural leader. People come to her if they have a problem. She has a way of being their friend but also – more importantly with sports – of being a good teammate. She’s a special kid.”
On the soccer field, the center midfielder contributed both offensively and defensively, and no one, according to her coach, was better at winning 50-50 balls in the air. “She just dominates,” coach Rachel Clemens said. “She’s fearless.” Slivka was a positive role model to her teammates. “Her passion for the game of soccer and her dedication are just contagious,” Clemens said. “She was a phenomenal leader.”
An excellent student, Slivka is a member of the National Honor Society. She has been accepted at Penn State main campus but is also considering Bloomsburg and York. She plans to major in physical therapy with an interest in working in pediatrics with special needs children.

Univest’s SuburbanOneSports.com Featured Male Athlete (Week of Jan. 24, 2011)
Bill Kim was a first team selection at both offensive lineman and middle linebacker last fall. The Upper Dublin senior was captain of a Flying Cardinal football squad that captured a share of the SOL American Conference title and advanced to the district playoffs. Kim was the lone returning veteran on the offensive line. “He was responsible for getting these guys together to be at our summer and offseason workouts,” coach Bret Stover said. “He was responsible for making all the calls on the line.” It was the same story on the defensive side of the football where Kim also made the calls.  Talk to Kim and his biggest source of pride was the success of his team. “One of Bill’s great traits was that he was always concerned about the team,” Stover said. “He wanted the team to be successful.”
Kim, the recipient of a Mini Maxwell, was chosen out of 60 nominated players to received the Maxwell Club’s prestigious 2010 Jim Henry Award. The award, presented by former Eagles quarterback Ron Jaworski, is given to the student-athlete that represents the unique balance of football prowess, academic excellence and dedicated community service. “I probably got 30-40 e-mails about what a great kid Bill Kim is from our teachers and middle school teachers as well,” Stover said. “All of his teachers speak highly of him.”
In the classroom, Kim carries a 4.7 GPA and scored over 2200 on the SAT. He has taken over 20 honors and AP courses and is being recruited by Ivy League schools and Carnegie-Mellon. Kim- who is active in community service - is treasurer of Upper Dublin’s student government, and he is president of Upper Dublin’s Asian Student Association. His top college choice is Columbia, and he plans to major in engineering.
