Casey Bill has been a four-year starter for the Wissahickon girls’ basketball team. A two-year captain, the senior point guard is the undisputed leader of a young Trojan squad that lost its only other senior for medical reasons in late December. “Casey is not the most prolific scorer out there, but if we don’t have her, we would never get the ball up the court,” coach Jerry Hartman said. “She sets up our offense and runs the team on defense.” Bill is a tough competitor who grew up playing organized basketball with the boys. She was the only girl – and the starting point guard – on the Plymouth Junior ABA team that captured the 2005 International Biddy championship in Wichita, Kan. “When we were in Kansas, everyone was like, ‘Oh, you have a girl on your team. Is she the coach’s daughter?’ and that kind of thing,” Bill said. “I would just play tough defense and prove myself.”
In addition to being a leader on the court, Bill is a leader off the court as well. She is the president of Wissahickon’s student governing body, the Student Council. She is also a member of the Interact Club, SAADD, Health Careers Club and the newly organized Fans Club.
An excellent student, Bill takes a full course load of honors and AP classes. With her sights set on a career that could include advertising and marketing with art thrown in, Bill plans to major in business. She hopes to play basketball at the collegiate level but has not made a college choice.

Sean Edmondson has been a program maker for Harry S. Truman’s wrestling program. In the past three years, he has won two sectional championships, qualified for districts three times – placing twice, and qualified for regions twice. He was undefeated in the league as a freshman and junior and had not lost a league match through Jan. 27. Truman’s program was 9-10 when Edmondson was a freshman. One year later, the Tigers won 18 matches and followed that with 17 the following year. This year, the Tigers have equaled those 17 wins with four matches to go. “Sometimes a program takes over what their leader’s done,” coach Steve Given said.
On Jan. 19, Edmondson set the Truman career wins record when he pinned Tennnet’s Frank Puccio in 29 seconds for his 124th victory. Edmondson, a team captain, has unselfishly volunteered to wrestle at any of three weight classes this year to help out the team. “You don’t get that a whole lot in kids anymore,” Given said. “If he has a fault, it’s that he worries about the program and other kids too much. Sometimes I have to remind him to let me worry about that and you take care of you.”
A member of Truman’s Varsity Club, Edmondson has held a 4.0 GPA for most of his time at Truman. Although uncertain what direction he wants to head in, Edmondson could pursue engineering at Drexel or head toward Lock Haven and Bloomsburg and pursue a teaching career.
