SuburbanOneSports.com recognizes a male and featured athlete each week. The awards, sponsored by Univest, are given to seniors of good character who are students in good standing that have made significant contributions to their teams. Selections are based on nominations received from coaches, athletic directors and administrators.

The Abington senior also excelled in track and competes in pole vault, triple jump and occasionally long jump. Last year, she was the team’s jumping MVP.
A member of the National Honor Society and National Arts Society, Geating is enrolled in AP and honors classes and is ranked near the top of her class. She plans to continue her track career at the collegiate level. Her top college choices are the Naval Academy and Calvin College.

Checchica is not only a mainstay on a South football team that is fighting to win a share of the National Conference title, he recently earned the distinction of being named a National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist. He takes a full course load of AP and honors classes. A member of the National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society, Checcia is ranked 15th in his senior class of 515 and scored a dazzling 2150 on his SATs.
Checchia hopes to continue his football career at the collegiate level, and he is looking for a school that would allow him to play football while also getting a top flight education. He is considering – among others – Princeton and the University of Pennsylvania.
