Bri McMichael was a senior captain of the Souderton volleyball team this fall. The 5-2 libero was the defensive mainstay on an inexperienced Indian squad. “We came along (offensively) as the season progressed, but we kind of banked our team around Bri getting the ball up and our setter being able to keep the ball in play,” coach Jessica Brockmann said. “She was helping us survive.” A three-year varsity player, McMichael, who plays club volleyball in the offseason, led the team in digs and also provided positive leadership. “She had the most experience, she knew a lot about the game,” Brockmann said. “There were a lot of new people coming in, and just having one coach, she was able to help run practices. She took the younger girls under her wings, and she leads by example.”
McMichael hopes to continue her volleyball career at the collegiate level where she plans to major in exercise science and kinesiology with a goal of becoming a personal trainer for athletes, encouraging them to reach their maximum potential. She also would like to coach one day.

Max Stella is described by Brian Hensel as a ‘quiet giant.’ At 6-2, 240 pounds, the Central Bucks West senior captain has been a major contributor on a Bucks’ squad that is having its most successful season in recent years. “Max is not a big rah-rah guy, and he’s not an in-your-face kind of guy,” Hensel said. “But he’s excellent working with the younger kids that are coming up. I call him a quiet giant because he’s ever-present, and he’s good with the young kids.” For Stella, playing West football is the culmination of a dream. “When I was seven, eight years old, West was very good,” he said. “A lot of kids dream of playing professional football, but for a lot of kids in this area, the dream was to go play football for CB West. That was definitely one of my dreams growing up.”
Stella has excelled at both tight end and linebacker for a West squad that won six of its first eight games. “This year we moved Max to linebacker, and he’s really done a nice job with everything we’re doing in all phases of the game,” Hensel said. “Max is blessed with a good physical body, and he runs well. From an offensive perspective, he’s just an easy target to find. He catches everything that’s thrown to him. He’s a quarterback’s dream.”
An excellent student, Stella has his sights set on one day becoming an athletic trainer or physical therapist. He hopes to continue his football career at the collegiate level. “Max loves the game,” Hensel said. “He loves to share his passion for the game. He’s the kind of kid that epitomizes what you want to have in a high school student.”
