SuburbanOneSports.com recognizes a male and female featured athlete each week. The awards, sponsored by Univest, are given to seniors of good character who are students in good standing that have made significant contributions to their teams. Selections are based on nominations received from coaches, athletic directors and administrators.

Kristen Lawlor is described as an ‘unsung hero’ by Central Bucks South lacrosse coach Janique Craig. “She creates the plays for our other attackers,” Craig said. “She might not be our top scorer, but she’s the one creating the goals, playing defense to the restraining line and putting pressure on the other team. Those kinds of players don’t always get the credit and accolades they deserve.” A four-year starter, Lawlor doesn’t care about receiving credit or accolades. “I’m not really into – go to goal and shoot every time,” Lawlor said. “I look more for the smart play.”
A four-year starter, Lawlor is passionate about her sport, and when she’s not playing lacrosse, she can often be found coaching. She has coached lacrosse with Doylestown Athletic Association (DAA) and also has coached field hockey for Warrington Warwick Athletic Association. She is also the first in line to help Craig with clinics she holds for youngsters.
Community service is also a major part of Lawlor’s life. She has been involved in a program called Barkley Buddies where she shadowed a young girl with learning disabilities. She also helped with the autistic class at CB South, and as her graduation project, she spent 40 hours in the classroom.
As a junior, Lawlor made the difficult decision to cut back on the time she was investing in lacrosse and forego her goal of playing collegiate lacrosse to focus instead on her academics. This fall Lawlor will be attending the school of her dreams – Penn State – where she plans to play club lacrosse.
A member of the National Honor Society, Lawlor – who is enrolled in AP and honors classes – boasts a 4.01 GPA. At Penn State, Lawlor will major in elementary education with a minor in mathematics.

Jordan Blackwell has assumed the role of go-to player for the Cheltenham volleyball team. The senior outside hitter has the school’s single season kill record of 291 in his sights. “If we can get the ball to him, there really hasn’t been anybody who has an answer for him at all,” coach Chris Manser said. “When he gets the ball, he really hammers it.” Blackwell – an all-around player – ranks third on the team in digs. “He’s very athletic,” Manser said. “He could probably play any sport he wants.”
As a captain, Blackwell leads by example. “He’s not a vocal leader,” Manser said. “He is a team leader in every sense of the word. He demands the best out of his teammates and helps set a high standard for our younger players. The kids look at him and see how he plays and how he handles his business, not just on the floor, and they have a lot of respect for him as a result.”
When he’s not practicing volleyball, Blackwell is likely to be sitting at a piano working on a new piece of music or playing cello for the high school orchestra. He is also a member of the National Honor Society, and he ranks in the top 10 percent of his class. He takes all honors or advanced placement classes.
Blackwell is considering an impressive list of colleges, and he has been accepted on academic scholarships to Georgetown, American, George Washington, Emory, Carnegie Mellon and Boston University. He has narrowed his choices to Emory and Georgetown. He is undecided on a major but is leaning towards the sciences, possibly pre-med.
