Alyson Albertson is a versatile member of the track team who competes and excels as a runner, jumper and thrower. The Neshaminy senior has qualified for districts in the javelin and routinely finished at or near the top in javelin, shot put and discus at dual meets. “I can count on her for anything,” coach Margie Taylor said. “At first, she was more of a runner, but her favorite event is the high jump, so she is more into that aspect.” A two-year captain, Albertson is willing to lend a hand off the track as well. “I can always count on her if I need something done for the team,” Taylor said. “As a captain, she gets everyone to be involved and to keep up the motivation. She leads everyone in the drills.”
In preparation for track season, Albertson decided to run cross country last fall for the first time. “It was hard to get used to, but once you started doing the practices, it really comes easily,” she said. “You get into really good shape, and the races aren’t even anything by the end of the season. I really loved it and wished I did it every year in high school.”
In what little spare time she has, Albertson coaches her former CYO track team, giving back to youngsters with the hope they will someday share her passion for the sport.
An honors student, Albertson will be attending Quinnipiac University this fall where she will major in sports medicine with the goal of becoming an athletic trainer.

Mike Spadaro is the kind of athlete any coach dreams of. A three-year member of the track team, the Council Rock South senior is willing to compete in any event he is needed. “He’s a super kid,” Rock South coach Len Spearling said of his senior captain. “He just wants what’s best for his team, help out his teammates. What I like about him is he’s a student of the game.” It is not unusual for Spadaro to compete in triple jump, pole vault, high jump, 400, 300 hurdles and relays. “His body takes quite a beating in the various events he competes in,” Spearling said. “Yet he never complains.” Spadaro has qualified for districts in the triple jump for the second consecutive year. Last year, Spadaro, along with Rock’s assistant track coach, organized a decathlon event. This summer 15 teams will be competing in the event.
Last fall, Spadaro was a captain and helped anchor the defense of Rock South’s soccer team. He also coaches soccer and is the head coach for the Crusa United Soccer Club’s U-14 intramural team. “I love doing it,” he said. “It helps give back.”
Off the field, Spadaro is a member of the National Honor Society as well as the Math and Science honor societies. Next year he will attend Johns Hopkins where he plans to compete in track while majoring in chemistry and bio-molecular engineering with a goal of going into research.
