Brian Urban – St. Joseph’s University (Lacrosse)
Major: Business
Final list of colleges: St. Joe’s, Lafayette, Ursinus, Lynchburg, Sacred Heart
Reasons for choosing St. Joe’s: “St. Joe’s called me July 1, and that was a good feeling because I know that’s the first day coaches can call on the phone. It obviously meant there was something there, and they really wanted me.
“The coach was a really nice guy when I talked to him, and it was even better when I got down there for my overnight. I liked the kids on the team, the coach and how they interacted. They have a good business program there, and it just seemed like a good fit. I’m pretty excited about it. It’s a relief to know I’m signed and going somewhere like St. Joe’s and doing something I love.”
When did the idea of playing college lacrosse become a reality? “I have been playing lacrosse ever since third grade, and I’ve been watching the NCAA Tournament since fourth grade. Just the competition at that level is really good, and I’ve always wanted to be a part of it. St. Joe’s is a good place to start.”
Coach Bruce Garcia says: “I have had the pleasure of coaching Brian for the past three years. In that time, Brian has shown exceptional athleticism, talent and leadership qualities. Playing as an attack man for the past three years, he has demonstrated his technical skills as a lacrosse player. His concept of team dynamics is exemplary, and his field presence is of a maturity level that belies his age. While Brian has developed as a player, he has consistently brought outstanding leadership to his team on and off the field.
“Brian has been named captain of the 2010 team. He will make an extremely valuable contribution to the St. Joseph’s University lacrosse team. He is an asset to this team, an outstandingly talented and dedicated athlete who demonstrates on a daily basis the intelligence, the commitment and the heart that I feel is necessary to compete at the next level.”
