“Visiting” Plymouth Whitemarsh Topples Norristown, 3-1, on Eagles’ Senior Match

By Scott Samuel David Weiss (PW Class of 2011)

NORRISTOWN (PA)- Senior Alex Lesse for the Plymouth Whitemarsh Colonials strung 20 consecutive marks during the first two games en route to a 631 series in Plymouth Whitemarsh’s 3-1 (1,036-956, 871-950, 933-889=2,840-2,795) victory over host Norristown on the Eagles’ senior match at Facenda Whitaker Lanes on Monday February 6, 2012 . In their previous meeting, “visiting” Norristown swept “host” Plymouth Whitemarsh, 4-0, in January 2012.

Coming off a 4-0 sweep against visiting and struggling Upper Moreland at Facenda Whitaker on Wednesday February 1, 2012, the “visiting” Colonials posted four out of five possible 200+ games in the first set against the Eagles. Lesse marked every frame and posted mostly nine-spares and strikes for 235. Seniors David Duncan (201), Julius Selfinger (202), and Andrew Rexroth (208) had PW’s other 200+ scores in the game, but sophomore Nathan Enslin mustered 190. John Mill rolled 217 and Codi Dell notched 201 in Norristown’s first game loss to the Colonials in 2012.

Selfinger usually PW’s anchor, played the first two games of this cross-river rivalry in the four-hole as Rexroth occupied the anchor position. Last week on Monday January 30, 2012, Selfinger recorded the Colonials second-ever perfect game (300) in a 3-1 losing cause to visiting North Penn.

Once again, Lesse proved to be a versatile force on the lanes by marking every frame in the second set for 227, but Selfinger had PW’s next highest game two score with 183. Matt Grayauski had his turn to be in the spotlight as he recorded at least seven strikes en route to 235.

Entering the third game, the Colonials carried a one-pin cumulative lead after dropping the second game by 79; moreover, Selfinger switched from the four-hole with Rexroth to anchor. After struggling to 154 in the second set, Enslin was pulled by head coach Jeff Blizzard, being replaced by Jake Gum (Gum provided a solid 179 to the eventual cause of victory). Lesse could not find a strike and spare on the first frame and a few other frames, but recovered at the pinnacle stage by concluding on four consectuve strikes to finish with 169 and a 600+series. Selfinger found some good wood, missing only one mark to finish one pin below a 600 series (599). Grayauski, the senior anchor for the Eagles, followed through as he had been expected for 201. Rexroth iced the game and match for the Colonials in game three with nine-spare-strike on his tenth frame.

While the Colonials spoiled the senior festivities for Norristown, PW will have their senior match festivities planned for their regular season finale on Wednesday February 8, 2012, hosting Upper Dublin at Facenda Whitaker. After the conclusion of that match against the visiting Cardinals, Blizzard will announce to his team the seven boy bowlers who will take their bowling talents to the Suburban One League championships in Feasterville (PA) on Wednesday February 15,2012.
