Greg Welsh – Penn State University (Baseball)
Major: Undecided but considering business
Final list of colleges: Penn State, Maryland, Pitt, Virginia Tech, East Carolina, Michigan, Wake Forest
Reasons for choosing Penn State: “Both of my parents went to Penn State, and that definitely influenced me to go there. Ever since I was a little kid, I always thought about going to Penn State because I was always going to their games. It also helps that my sister goes there.
“It’s always been my number one choice.”
When did the idea of playing collegiate baseball become a reality?  “I started to realize I would be able to play college baseball when I was in 10th grade when I went to tournaments.
“It’s really exciting. It was a long process, and it’s finally over. Now I can relax and get ready for the season.”
Coach Greg Young says:  “What sets Greg apart is his competitive nature. He hates to lose, and even when he doesn’t have his best stuff, he’ll give you everything he has. He’s an unbelievably bright kid on the field. He understands the game and does a great job in the classroom.
“I think Penn State is a perfect fit. He’s a left-handed pitcher, and that’s an advantage. In addition to that, his style is ‘in your face.’ He comes right after you. There’s no backing down. If you go to pitch at that level, that’s exactly the kind of attitude you need.”
