What can BROWN do for you?

The UPS truck did its part for the Central Bucks West Bucks on Friday night with a huge delivery to the Doylestown high school at 2 p.m. On the truck was a brace for gifted senior running back Rashaad Williams.

“I would not have played the game without the brace,” said Williams – who was spectacular with a game-high 156 yards and two touchdowns as unbeaten West (2-0) blasted host William Tennent (1-1), 49-7. “I didn’t practice since Wednesday, and I was getting nervous that the brace wouldn’t get here before game time.

“I really love playing on this field,” added Williams who had no less than eight carries of 10 yards or more – including a 49-yard dash – on the gorgeous Tennent turf. “I feel way quicker on turf. This was a nice win, and we are going in the right direction as a football team.”

“All day long I was making phone calls asking ‘Is it in?’” smiled Central Bucks West head coach Brian Hensel in reference to the brace. “The kid really wanted to play, and we wanted him to play.

“Raashad is not only a weapon on this team, but one of the major weapons in the league,” added Hensel of his diminutive running back.

William Tennent looked impressive very early in the game and forged a 7-0 lead.

The Panthers first possession was engineered by senior quarterback Shakat Kofa and resulted in Kofa scoring on a one-yard run. Kofa – who ran for 64 yards – also completed two passes in the nine-play scoring drive.

“That was an oh-shoot series,” said Hensel. “Tennent did some things that we haven’t seen on film, but we made some adjustments and kept them off the scoreboard the rest of the game.”

The Bucks answered quickly with a 65-yard scoring drive on just three plays.

Williams jetted for 49 yards to begin the drive, and Joe DiStefano capped the drive with a six-yard scoring bolt. Place kicker Conor Edwards booted the first of his seven consecutive placements.

The Bucks scored 14 points in the second period to take a commanding 21-7 halftime lead.

Senior quarterback Ward Udinski fired a 35-yard TD bullet to Oskar Duva, while Williams scored on a 10-yard TD scamper with just 32 seconds left in the half.

West scored 28 unanswered points in the second half – 49 in all – to cruise to the win.

Williams opened the third period with a four-yard touchdown run and then Udinski fired his second scoring strike to Duva – this one for 22 yards.

“That play was a great example of all the work that Udinski did in the off-season,” said Hensel. “Ward extended that play because he was able to break a tackle. Last year, he would not have been strong enough to make that play.”

The Bucks played mostly backups in the fourth period but still managed to score 14 points.

Second team quarterback Cody Reimenschneider bootlegged around the end and raced 58 yards for a score, and corner back David Manning intercepted a pass and raced 46 yards for a score.

The win was the second of the season for West – a third is a strong possibility when the Bucks travel to play Wissahickon next Friday.

William Tennent defeated Wissy 20-13 in the first week of the season.

“The school really looked down on us the last two years,” said Udinski – who completed five passes for 98 yards and a pair of scores. “Now that we are winning, the town and everyone else are really getting excited.

“It will be nice to be playing again on the turf at Wissahickon,” added Udinski. “Rashaad is such a playmaker, and he looks even better on turf.”

“We have a great home turf field, and we play all our games on turf except for Central Bucks South and Quakertown,” said Hensel. “And that’s fine with me.   I think we have a team that can play well on the turf. I know Rashaad loves playing on the turf.”

I wonder if the school tipped the UPS driver?

Extra Points: William Tennent’s Connor Geiger led the Panthers in rushing with 79 yards on just six carries… Geiger also excelled on the defensive side of the ball … Kofa is the punter for WT and tried to punt the ball away from the electrifying Williams. Two of his efforts resulted in punts of six and nine yards – with Williams out of the game in the fourth period, Kofa launched a 66-yard punt…Tennent will play at Upper Merion (0-2) next week.
