The Wissahickon boys water polo team opened their regular season against perennial rival Souderton, losing 14 to 13 in sudden death after double overtime. Wissahickon lead the game by 3 at the end of the first period, and lead Souderton 8 to 6 at the half. The third period was a defensive battle with the Trojans extending their lead to 9 to 6. In the fourth period, Souderton came alive tieing the game 10 – 10 to force overtime. The first three minute overtime ended in an 11 – 11 tie. During the second overtime period, each team scored twice bringing the score to 13-13. In the sudden death period, Souderton scored first, chalking up the win.
Senior Luke Waechter lead the trojan offense with 9 goals and 1 assist and 4 steals. The Trojans had a balanced attack and strong defensive plays from all of its starters including Alex Bolen, (1 goal and 2 assists), Danny Knoll ( 1 goal and 1 assist), Robbie Wilson ( 1 assist), and Jake Berring (2 goals and 3 steals). Defensively, Luke Tarzia (4 steals) and Steven McFarland (4 steals) lead the way. Goalie Mac Hennessey played tough with at least 10 saves. Despite the loss, Wissahickon should be proud of the solid play demonstrated on both defense and offense, as well as the numerous contributions of the starters and players who came of the bench. Great game guys !! What a way to start the season!
In other news, the JV boys played a good game falling short by three (9-5). Scorers included Nick Pak (2), Jake Valentine (1), John O'Donnell (1), Noah Katz (1). Jeff Beyer and Evan Shapiro lead the defense with 4 and 3 steals respectively.
