The Wissahickon School Ice Hockey Club defeated Upper Dublin by a score of 5-1 in the annual Thanksgiving game, also known as the "Battle of the Borough” last Wednesday night at Bucks County Ice.
The game was expected to be a high scoring affair as Upper Dublin is led by seniors Sam Etskovitz, Tyler Peskin, and Gil Lederhandler, who have been among the league's leading scorers for each of the past two seasons and are on the same path again this season.
However, Wissahickon stole the show getting big scoring games from senior captain David Pataki (hat trick) and Jules Lever (two goals) and two assists from junior Luke Honorowski. Juniors Dustin Rabinowitz (one assist) and Matthew Vervlied added stellar defensive play shutting down the Upper Dublin attack.
Wissahickon goaltender sophomore Jordan Fromm turned away seve of the eight shots he faced while Upper Dublin's sophomore goaltender Zach Hanson kept UD in the game as he stopped 35 of the 40 shots from the Trojans’ attack.
Upper Dublin defenseman Ben Etskovitz played a well for the Cardinals and scored the lone Upper Dublin goal early in the first period, before Wissahickon took control of the game.
Joey Honorowski, Kyle Wolf, Brandon Rosoff and Jacob Segelbaum played a strong game for the Trojans, regularly pinning Upper Dublin deep into its own zone, creating scoring chances, and sacrificing their bodies against the more experienced and bigger Upper Dublin opponents.
Both teams resume play after this week. Schedules and additional statistics can be found on the league website: www.shshl.org
