Abington senior Marc Macione was recognized for committing to continue his football career at West Chester University.
Marc Macione – West Chester University (Football)
Major: Early Grades Prep
Final list of colleges: West Chester, East Stroudsburg, Kutztown, Lebanon Valley
Reasons for choosing West Chester: “I chose West Chester because they have a good history of being a winning program. When (assistant head coach Gerald) Toney came to talk to me he made it sound like I would be part of the program early, and I could help make an impact. That sounded like fun to me. Also, I already know a few kids there, so it will be easy getting used to.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in football at the collegiate level? “When I was younger, I was a baseball fan, so my dream was to play college baseball. As I grew older, I grew into my body, and I was always a bigger kid, so when I got into football, I knew I was better at football. I ended up dropping baseball this year and really devoted myself to football and the weight room. This year is when I really knew I had a shot at playing college football if I just put together a good season. I didn’t really know I was going to play until this year.”
Coach Kevin Conlin says: “Marc played middle linebacker and fullback for us. He’ll probably play linebacker at West Chester. He was a first team all-league kid. I thought he had a phenomenal senior year and was very reminiscent of Jackson Taylor from a couple years back where we had a real big-time middle linebacker that really made our defense go and won the National Conference for us. He was a leader of the defense. He’s just a great kid.”
