Abington's McNamara & Stewart to Play Collegiate Field Hockey

On Thursday, April 12, 2018, Abington seniors Natalie McNamara and Evyn Stewart were recognized for committing to continue their field hockey careers at the collegiate level. Check back for photos of the event.

Natalie McNamara – Monmouth University (Field Hockey)
Major:
Undecided but possibly Education or Sports Psychology
Final list of colleges:  Monmouth, Lafayette, Penn State, Salisbury, Villanova, Towson, St. Joe’s
Reasons for choosing Monmouth:  “I love the distance it was from home – I’m a homebody, and it wasn’t too far, but it was good enough to get away. It’s right on the beach, and I love the area. The school itself is beautiful.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in field hockey at the collegiate level?  “I was always a big lacrosse player too, so it was really hard for me to choose which sport to play in college, but I continued playing club field hockey and got recruited a lot more. I was in love with both, and it was definitely hard.”
Coach Katie Small says:  “Natalie is an explosive force on the forward line. She can change the momentum of the game by sheer will. Her ability to see openings and capitalize on opportunities make her a constant threat.”

Evyn Stewart – Montclair State University (Field Hockey)
Major:
Linguistics with a minor in Speech Pathology
Final list of colleges:  Montclair, Slippery Rock, Ursinus
Reasons for choosing Montclair:  “I chose Montclair because I really liked the campus – it’s open but still close together so I don’t feel it’s too big. The team was really nice when I did my overnight and the coach was too.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in field hockey at the collegiate level?  “I have been playing the sport for a long time, ever since about second grade. Once I was in eighth grade I joined club, and being in that level of play pushed me to look at playing in college.”
Coach Katie Small says:  “Evyn has composure and confidence in the backfield. While she had a calming presence, she could also turn on the tenacity when the situation called for it. Her passion for the game and her teammates is unmatched.”
