Abington's Moynihan & Crump to Play Collegiate Football

On Monday, May 23, 2022, Abington seniors Danny Moynihan & Lucius Crump were recognized for committing to compete in collegiate football.

Lucius Crump – East Stroudsburg University (Football)
Major:
Business Management
Final list of colleges: East Stroudsburg, Eastern, West Chester, Morgan State, Delaware State
Reasons for choosing East Stroudsburg: “I liked the hands-on learning and the opportunity the coaches gave me. I can reach out and talk to anybody any time. It just caught my eye.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in football at the collegiate level?  “Tenth grade was actually my first year ever playing football, so it was just a great opportunity that my coach gave me a shot. Throughout my three years, I learned and watched, and my final year I was able to play a position where I could start and make a difference to my team.”

Coach Kevin Conlin says:  “Lucius had a great year for us. He’s one of our most improved players. In fact, he got our award for most improved player at our banquet. He did a fantastic job, taking his game to the next level. He helped us out tremendously. As the year went on, we got a lot better, and a lot of that has to be attributed to Lucius. He was an offensive guard, so he used to pull a lot, and he led a lot of the plays.”

Favorite movie: Bad Boys

Danny Moynihan – Carnegie Mellon University (Football)
Major:
Business
Final list of colleges:  Carnegie Mellon, West Chester, Fordham
Reasons for choosing Carnegie Mellon: “The education definitely, 100 percent, was the main factor in my choice. When I went out there to visit, I absolutely loved the city, and I loved the people on the team, so it just made me want to make the right decision for myself, and that was definitely it.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in football at the collegiate level?  “I wanted to play football in college as soon as I started playing the sport when I was in third grade. I always wanted to go to the next level. As I started to go through high school, I played early on as a freshman and sophomore. I definitely wanted to go and compete at a higher level.”
Coach Kevin Conlin says: “Danny was our best player by far. True to form, he was a first team all-league tight end, so obviously, he got respect from a lot of the other coaches. He was a second team defensive end, and it’s a pretty tough league, so to be able to attain those accomplishments is a feather in his cap. (What made him stand out) was his overall game – it wasn’t just his blocking, it wasn’t just his receiving, although he was really good at both. I always tell people – from day one, he was the best leader we’ve had in a long time. He really did a nice job. With a rough season, a lot of teams fall apart, but Danny did such a great job keeping the team together. The senior leaders we had with him - Jonah Dalton and Johnny Dzwiela – they really did such a good job of keeping it all together. We were 3-7, and there wasn’t one practice where I walked off the field depressed. I walked off of every practice field enthusiastic and ready to go. I couldn’t wait to get back the next day because of kids like Danny.”
