Kate Formichelli – Messiah College (Softball)
Major: Pre-medical
Final list of colleges: Messiah, Virginia Wesleyan, Dickinson, Clark, Clarkson
Reasons for choosing Messiah: “I chose Messiah because it was the best fit for me, and I knew that I would feel safe and welcomed. Also, it was the cheapest.”
What was the progression that led you to playing softball at the collegiate level? “I always wanted to play collegiate softball, and now that I’m there, it’s an unbelievable feeling. I’m so blessed and thankful for everyone that has helped me along the way and encouraged me to keep going. I didn’t even know Messiah was out there until they reached out to me. When I looked at the school, I was absolutely in love with everything about it. As soon as I could, I verbally committed to Messiah, and I am so happy with my decision.”
Coach Dan Schram says: “Kate is one of the highest character individuals I’ve had the privilege to coach. She is the product of a wonderful family that has always been supportive of her and guided her along the way. As a softball player, she has a tremendous upside. She’s a very good catcher and a power hitter. When she is at her best, you won’t find many that are better.
“I look forward to watching her achievements in college. She has had a great senior year, and I believe she is one of those players who will play her best ball in college. She is a great student, a hard worker, and an overall great human being. She will be missed at Bensalem.”
