On Wednesday, May 26, 2021, Bensalem seniors Jessica Klein & Madison Buechner were recognized for committing to continue their softball careers at the collegiate level.
Madison Buechner – Bloomfield College (Softball)
Major: Biology
Final list of colleges: Bloomfield, Rider, St. Joe’s
Reasons for choosing Bloomfield: “I wanted to go smaller. My friend committed there, and she convinced me it was a good school. I said, ‘You know what, that sounds like a place I’d want to go to.’ Junior year, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to play softball in college. I didn’t know what I wanted to do. I found that I really liked the school and the coach.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in softball at the collegiate level? “For a while, I stopped loving softball as much, but we had a break with COVID, and I didn’t play. I missed it and I went back to it. I just loved it as much as I always did. I pulled myself out of that, committed quickly, and now I’m so excited. I can’t wait.”
Coach Dan Schram says: “I first met Maddie Buechner in 2011. At the time, it was my first year as head coach and we did not have a home field. We used to play at Valley Athletic Association. Maddie was eight years old at the time and I stayed after a high school practice to watch her 8-year-old team. I always kept an eye on her age group as they progressed through the years. She later played for what was one of the first B town travel teams called the Valley Blaze, and she began going to our softball camps in 2015. Her potential was unlimited as a hitter, and she was a very good fundamental first basemen. She immediately played on the varsity team as a freshman and made a big impact right from the start. She believed in our program and helped elevate us to new heights in the last four years. As a person, she is a solid as the Rock of Gibraltar and comes from a great family. She will be greatly missed, and I look forward to watching her play at Bloomfield College.”

Jessica Klein – Caldwell University (Softball)
Major: Undecided/Business
Final list of colleges: Caldwell, UConn, Siena, Marist
Reasons for choosing Caldwell: “I loved the coach, and it’s a great program.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in softball at the collegiate level? “I knew I wanted to play softball in college when I was young. It was always a goal growing up. When Caldwell made me the offer and I met the coach, I knew it was the right fit for me, so I committed early my junior year.”
Coach Dan Schram ways: “Jess Klein gave it her all throughout her years at Bensalem. When I reflect upon her years, two amazing traits of hers really stick out. As a player, she hit .814 with runners in scoring position, somewhat comparable to Captain Clutch (Derek Jeter). She was great at manufacturing runs and did whatever it took to help the team win. In her senior year, we were shorthanded. Jess played multiple positions and did whatever it took for us to be successful. Finally, I have never had a player that laughed and smiled as much as she does. She is gracious and shows gratitude whenever possible. She always brought levity and laughter when it was absolutely needed. She is morally sound, and that is a tribute to the great family she comes from and the mentorship she received from Brian Kalese her travel coach. Caldwell is getting a gamer and a great human being.”
